Guys I need your help again. My 90 tII just started having trouble starting on Monday. On Sunday I put in a custom aluminium air inlet duct and also removed my smog pump. Then when I got in it on Monday it didn't want to start until I gave it some gas. Although once I get it started it runs fine. No rpm flux, no stuttering. It runs totally smooth. This problem has me stumped. Could it be because I removed the pump? Or because the cumputer isn't used to the extra air it is getting? Could it be because I hooked something up wrong?

Do you still have your ACV, cats, and other emissions stuff?

No cats, but I do still have the AVC and other stuff. Although I think I fixed it about anhour ago. I'll see when I go to start it before work. I think it was b/c my air filter wasn't sealing totally on my AFM and also I had a vacum line hooked up that I didn't need. I think this caused enough of a leek to make the computer think that the air inlet duct wasn't totally on the front of my turbo. Anyway after I changed these things it started on the first try. Thanks for the help.

That whole ******* AFM thing is so critical that its plugged in firmly, and there is no leaks between it and the throttle body. Even a loose hose clamp can cause headaches.

Yeah, dave with the 91 was having the same problem. I told him to check the AFM and he found a loose screw in one of the clamps on the inlet duct...problem solved.

Unfortunately I found out this afternoon that it isn't fixed. I called Rotary Performance and they told me to check for fault codes on the ecu. Problem is I don't feel comfortable doing it myself and I don't know how. Do any of you guys know how? Also I have a suspition that it my be my fuel pump going bad since I have to give it gas to get it started. Sorry to get everyones hopes up, but that's a 7 for ya.

The codes are easy to check: http://www.johnr.com/cpucodes.html . All you need is one piece of wire and the ability to count. :P

Thanks 13BAce. I checked for the codes and didn't get any. Yesterday I took it to the Mazda dealer here in town. They had it all day and couldn't find the problem. Although the mechanic working on it isn't a rotary specialist and he only worked on it for 1 1/2 hours b/c they let it sit all day so the engine would be cold. Today I'm going to try one more thing. I'm going to check the allignment marks are set correctly on my crank angle sensor. I hope this will fix the problem. If it doesn't it's back to Mazda on Monday(rotary specialist comes back). If they can't find the problem I'm going to take a couple of days of leave and take it to Rotary Performance in Garland, TX. Hopefully they will be able to fix it. This is the first time a 7 has stumped me and it sucks.
