Does anyone have an idea what might be my problem with my 87 FC? I thought it was the BAC, but there may be more than one problem. The car seems to run good for a while; (except for the idle) then suddenly it will have low power and can barely pull its self. It also begins to smoke good old blue oil smoke.
This seems to only happen (start running bad) below 3,000 - 3,500 RPM. A few times it seemed to clear up by keeping the Rpm’s up around 4,000 RPM for a couple of minutes, but most of the time I shut it off and after it cools completely it will start and run ok. Thanks, |
I'm guessing this is a high mileage motor.
A new set of plugs will probably get your power back. I'd look at the plugs & check the compression to see if you getting close to rebuild/swap time. |
Thanks again sureshot, and yes I have about a 150,000 mile on the car.
Is there anything I can do with hot or colder plugs etc, to get a few more mile out of her and stop the problems Thanks |
The rotary engine burns through leading plugs so fast that it's rarely necessary to clean them.
Just change them as the burn out, and clean the trailing plugs. As a temporary measure, a can of “motor honey” or STP will reduce the oil consumption. |
