It is very easy to install the bushings. In fact if you go to MazdaTrix.com, view the instructions and video on installing a short shifter. That will basically give you the instructions on removing any shifter and accessing the bushings even if you are not installing a short shifter.

I replaced them on both of mine and it does make a big difference

My tranny doesnt like to go into gear in the cold because the oil we use is so thick, and its so cold up here. I use 75w-90, by the way. But on topic, my shifter was all fucked when i bought the car, and now its all goo,d after a short shifter and new bushings. Feels brand spankety new
