I'm eventually going to single exhaust, for the lower cost, and I guess the bonus of saving weight. But I've seen pics of it on either side of the car.

Please list the reason for your decision. Thanks!

FikseRxSeven 11-13-2003 09:40 AM

right hand side.... just like the fd

so when you shoot flames it wont block your view

i.didnt.do.it 11-13-2003 09:40 AM

Right -

That way all the gases wont be blasting in someone elses face (plus if you get pulled over it wont be blasting right infront of the cop).

Plus when your backing up that **** stinks.

And all of your exhaust will be on one side. not crossing over to the other...

what do you mean?

i.didnt.do.it 11-13-2003 09:50 AM

It'll all be on the right side, ie: you wont have to jack it up on one side, then on the other to do and repairs (if you had to). You could just jack up the passengerside one time and be done with it. I'm just thinking in case something happens and you need to do somthing w/ the exhaust.

Actually, I have no idea what I was thinking. I'm just lazy and wouldn't wanna have to jack up twice on each side.

Baldy 11-13-2003 09:55 AM

that makes sense, I was thinking along the lines of the exhaust gases, not the actual tubes...much clearer now

In this case, right is right and left is wrong. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

yah thats my reasoning too

SPD Racing FC 11-13-2003 01:45 PM

Put it on the right side it balances out the weight of the driver ( a little bit)

pengaru 11-13-2003 02:35 PM

right side, shorter pipes == lighter.

Baldy 11-13-2003 02:41 PM

thanks for all the input.

I'm a pragmatic guy. No offense, but if I was going to do something to be different, I would paint the car neon rainbow-colored.

the corksport cat back feeds out the drivers side, and is a straight pipe with a couple wiggles. Doesn't get much straighter than that.

The all new Cork Sport 'Power Series' Cat-back exhaust system is constructed of 80mm (appx. 3 1/8") T304 stainless steal with a polished finish (100mm tip). Mandrel bent for maximum flow design. The single exit (driver side) also helps drop substantial weight from the vehicle (appx. 36lb drop in weight from stock). Full 80mm system bolts to our mid-pipe (under development) or to your own 80mm/3" pipe.
unless you have a heavy chamber muffler it won't change the weight distrobution much

so it really comes down to what your preference is im using the corksport, just because it fell into my lap. I like the passenger side feed a little better.....fuk i don't kno

Baldy 11-14-2003 08:04 AM

alright, if you clicked "other," please explain

fc3sboy1 11-16-2003 05:59 PM

right side is best side no matter if jdm or not, **** the best way to go is custom with a lil dyno work to find what works the best not if its jdm. ppls please just cause it says jdm on it it dont mean ****! by goin on the left side u heat up fuel lines that are on that side not to mention if ya want to go fuel cell the left side is the better side for exurnal pump and catch can . remember colder fuel = better fuel

rotary_revolution_0 11-16-2003 11:54 PM

I clicked "other" because I have duals. I've always liked them, and since just about everything else *power steering, AC, stock fan shroud, as well as a ton of interior and exterior weight mods* are taken off, it doesn't hurt my weight. But then again, it's a stock FI car, though it IS ported, I'd like to run a bridge ported naturally aspirated carb engine. Don't have enough MOO-LAH to finance it tho. Right now I only run high 13's <sigh>

mazdaspeed101 11-17-2003 02:55 AM

mine is on the left cuz i got a corksport kind of didnt have a choice i prefer right but im not complaining. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

dcrasta 11-17-2003 03:09 PM

Gass filler door is on the left, so exhaust should exit on the right (just my 2.6 cents!)

I'm going with right side, it looks better imo. Wg outlet will be coming out behind passenger tire https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Talkin' FC here...

mazdadrifter 11-17-2003 03:47 PM

cool pic, this is the corksport with a racing beat header, as you can tell the corksport is just about a straight out. that's why my car WAS so ungodly loud, i now have some more restrictive duals on it.

Baldy 11-17-2003 04:04 PM

and that exits the left side?

n/m, just saw this:

mazdadrifter 11-17-2003 04:19 PM

the way that the cat is positioned it is actually pointed towards the driverside rear of the car, the corksport just continous that direction, that's why it looks so straight because the cat is crooked in relationship to the car

mazdaspeed101 11-17-2003 07:56 PM

hehe there is my exhaust https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif i miss my car

you gotta be ****** kidding me.

I'm gonna say the right side will provide better "upstairs" power, and the left side will give you better low end response. Longer pulses = teh torque and better sound IMO. Just from my experience go for the right side

this post make no snese

DaddyMac 11-17-2003 08:07 PM

**** looks, passenger side is best.

1-weight distribution

2-you will smell less of the stink if you have your window down.

Blink 11-18-2003 04:28 PM

left side.. cause.. that's the side my gt spec exhales.

does it really matter? either way unless you have duals you have an open slot in your rear bumper where a muffler is suppose to be ...

fc3sboy1 11-18-2003 10:13 PM

right side , yall know just how loud a rotary is put 2 extra minor bends in the pipes it helps wit the noise , besides if it isnt quieter ya got a better chance of pissin off the local pig on the side of the road ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, shoot flames at the cop ( make some bacon ) while shiftin past them hahahahahaha

GarageBoy 11-18-2003 10:35 PM

What ever is the shorter side out.

Ranzo 11-19-2003 12:39 AM

Wow all the guys in the states seem to differ from me when it comes to mufflers. Once on a poll similar to this everyone voted for Dual....LOL Dual is gross in my opinion.......dunno why Mazda made it like that. I have had every kind of muffler in the world on my car at one time or another and from my experience exiting on the left side or drivers side in the USA is best for a FC. To have an exhaust come straight out the turbine downt the right side of the car seems like a good idea( I am talking Turbo cars) but the way the bod is made limits Front pipe design and causes the muffler to hang lower when exiting the right side it also cause minor bends to match up the hangers. If it comes out the left you can hove 2 small bends and it will go right to the hangers.

This is just my experiences with different mufflers. All the ones that came out the right side ended up getting destroyed because the get caught on cat eye street markers and stuff.........Then again maybe my car is just too low hahaa

It really don't make that much of a difference which side, its all personal preference. I like the left side. somebody else likes right and some like both.
