I was planning on going for a single. I wanted to buy just a muffler, and have a shop fab the rest, to cut on cost (cheap shop, in and out real quick).



Any recommendations on a decent SS muffler? RB is too damn expensive for me.

I'm currently running with RB headers+presilencer, and stock half-busted catback, and it's pretty loud, IMO. And sounds like ass. FCManiac, any idea how much louder CS would be than my current crap setup?

If you look at the muffler design of the CS and the fact that it has no resonator before the muffler, you'll understand why its so loud. Generally, the bigger the muff and the packing materials, the quieter it'll be. I think that is why most dual systems sound quieter. I imagine the GT Spec like Nemesis is selling is quieter than the N1 because the muffler is bigger and it looks to have a resonator... I'm no expert but that CS was loud as hell and you could tell why just by looking at its design. Its meant for high end power anyway, not noise reduction.



On my daily driver, I had a system built that performs very well and is quiet too. I got a straight through muffler and resonator by Magnaflow from bigexhaust.com. You can get a muffler there all stainless for $70-80. If you want to reduce the chainsaw rotary sound, have them weld in a resonator too. You can probably build a decent single system with resonator for around $200-250.

Exhaust tips calculate directly into horsepower while size calculates into torque.



A bigger can = bigger torque



multiple exhaust tips = more hp

I was thinking 2.5" in (with 2.5" from the presilenser, if the shop has it available), and I don't know what exit size. Is that too big for n/a? Should I go 2.25", or is it not that big a difference?



And I don't mean to ***** this thread, but is it bad to have everything welded up, rather than use hangers?

You need to measure and see how much room you have in there. I didn't get to that yet. I am thinking about a custom dual system with two of part # 14615. The system would be a 2.5" collector flanged off the presilencer to dual 2.25" pipes with a resonator before each muffler. I don't think you'd need more than 2.25 for NA. I'm not sure what you mean by not having hangers. On the DD, I took the muffler, resonator and tip to a shop and they welded everything including a cat flange and hangers and installed it all for $140 with 2.25" piping.

in my opinion duals are a bit louder and deeper, and look better to be more exact. i also have a single apexi dunk muffler that sounds pretty good single exit

I personally think the dual is better than a single, also it give the car a nice look to it too. Just my thought.

I am running RB dual from Mazdatrix on my 79 and love it.

When i was looking into this debate years ago, for the carburated cars, single gave you a little more low end, and duals gave you high end.

I am going with the RB dual from Mazdatrix on my 90 GTU's as soon as it comes out of the paint shop.

I didn't really care to read all of this but if your asking about what sounds better, looks better(oppinion ofcouarse) then you have to go with duals. Two mufflers of the same cuality of the corck sport(BTW quality is not ment for the SOUND of it only the manufacturing) it will sound much better since there are two mufflers doing work on the sound.

APEXi N1's wouldn't be my choice because they are just rice cans with large tips added to large pipes. I would say HKS, Greddy, Borla, And finally the best one of all for sound is Racing Beat mufflers.
