Sry but im a European car guy, Drive a GTI right now waiting on the RX-7 build im doing this winter, has anyone ever shaved the engine bay in a RX-7? Seems like it would probably be pretty difficult but who knows.

its been done. not by me though, depending on how crazy you get it doesnt look too bad, theres a few studs to pull out, and some holes to weld up, and then you're good right?

hmm possibly have to try this when I get the shell to the house =]

idk yet though

jwteknix 10-09-2007 04:54 PM

im just gonna paint mine. shaving all the holes and **** is way to much work for me lol

One320B 10-09-2007 08:25 PM

I shaved some of mine before getting it painted. Didn't fill up many of the holes because I wasn't sure which ones I may still want to use when I'm done.

The holes I don't use I will just cover with polished steel and clean bolt heads... nothing too crazy. There isn't much point in shaving the rx engine bay, everybody just stares at the engine dumbfounded anyways.

Here's pics of mine...

one320fb 10-09-2007 09:57 PM

those pictures don't really do that engine bay any justice I still see some of my dried up spooge in the hole for the master cylinder. Did you take those pics in Aldie or are they the old ones?

lamar- 10-09-2007 10:02 PM

looks very clean =]

One320B 10-10-2007 11:47 AM

Those were back about a day after it was sprayed.

The spooge is the liner/matting from the firewall... it'll all be cleaned up eventually, but I hadn't touched much of it.

And yes, the pics are funny. The pics make it look almost "sky" blue when light hits it.. and you cant even see the pearl on the top of the firewall, lol

One320B 10-10-2007 11:50 AM

And those "white" areas are reflection from the paint - I never noticed how crappy those pics actually were until now, lol.

Oh well... most of it gets covered up anyways..

lamar- 10-10-2007 06:39 PM

okay well is there a color you guys would love to see on a FC? I was at first gonna do a offwhite. But im not sure yet. Any color is possible im doing a full respray interior, and engine bay...

Rob x-7 10-10-2007 07:17 PM

I think the engine bay is way to uneven to bother with filling holes.

It is so uneven that when you re-paint it all the angles reflect the paint so nicely that you wont notice

any extra holes.

One320B 10-11-2007 10:58 AM

Exactly...

We laid down 3 coats of clear in my engine bay and with any bit of light you dont really notice any of the "imperfections" or holes until you get down on it.

In the last pic I showed, you can somewhat see where the studs were removed and ground down. I didn't want to fill over them as all it would take is a wrench or something hitting it to chip the paint right off. I removed a total of 5 studs and MADE two larger holes for the IC piping, but thats it. No filling of any holes. You can always cover them up later and I like having holes to pass things through if/when needed.

One320B 10-11-2007 10:59 AM

As for colors... thats your choice. I went with innocent blue mica since its a factory JDM '99 color and I hadn't seen an FC in it yet..

I always liked yellow and orange as well. I think a dark midnight blue looks great too...

lamar- 10-11-2007 05:42 PM

im looking at a lemans blue or something bribght blue then ill do black rims. with a colormatched lip

Rob x-7 10-11-2007 06:06 PM

some engine bays dont look so hot when you do them body color.

you cant go wrong with black

lamar- 10-11-2007 06:25 PM

there are 2 colors I dont wanna go, Black or red =[

I like white, ive already got paint for white its a BMW Offwhite. Or that Lemans blue, or Even laguna Seca Blue =]

Rob x-7 10-11-2007 06:41 PM

im just saying that yellow cars with yellow engine bays dont look so great.

black is pure sex

jwteknix 10-11-2007 08:39 PM

im with rob im gonna paint my white bay black

One320B 10-11-2007 08:42 PM

From a track perspective, I dont like black engines bays as its harder to see leaks, etc... white shows it the best.

I would agree that yellow cars w/ yellow engine bays dont look that great - yellow w/ black is good though (what else would go w/ yellow anyways)

lamar- 10-11-2007 09:37 PM

how about eather of these colors? Thoughts?

I really like this Blue

One320B 10-12-2007 12:38 PM

Two problems w/ those pics - first off, they are both FCs so obviously somebody has done that color... secondly, its hard to tell what color it is exactly since they are photos - do you know what the paint color is called or what the paint code is?

I like the blue better...

lamar- 10-12-2007 02:14 PM

the exact color dont matter, ill be makign all the paint for the car, and ill be spraying the base/clear as well. So I was thinkin the blue as well. With possibly gold rims. But not sure on the rims yet.

lamar- 10-16-2007 09:01 AM

decided on BMW alpine white 3. Its a bit offwhite, Paint code 300,

Baldy 10-16-2007 09:24 AM

I like the gold, not that it matters now. I'll have a gold car again some day, with gloss black accents, bay, and dark tint. yummy.
