Seized? How Do I Know If It Really Is

well the news is in! after towing my car too my work for the second time in 2 weeks now aparently the motor is seized, which personally I find it hard to believe.



now they are basing this on the fact that they could manually crank the engine and the fact that a wire which they say is conected to the started is smoking and sizzling because its trying to crank the motor but cannot because its seized....



now personally i find it very hard to believe that the motor is seized. I have heard and correct me if im wrong but It is almost impossible to maually crank a rotary engine.... also it just seems strange to me the whole scenario so someone please help me think of other possibilities that it could be other than a seized motor because that would suck.... thanks

WTF? I can turn my motor over by grabbing the alternator pulley and twisting it. They can turn the motor over by hand, but when they hit the starter, the wire smokes and they conclude that the motor is seized? Go find a real mechanic!

If you cant turn the engine even with a breaker bar on the front of the E-shaft either something broke internally or it is gummed up with carbon.



Often if the engine sits for a long time the carbon flakes off and falls down. When you go to spin the engine over the rotor tips scoop up the carbon and it piles up behind them. The pile gets so big that it make it so you cant spin the engine.



A very easy way to fix this is to open the spark plugs and or take off the intake and exhast manifolds. Then spray in lots of carb cleaner and some atf.



This will make the carbon more fluid and you will be able to crank the engine again.

make sure you get the good carb cleaner though.... some of the cheaper ones are crap... get the **** that'll eat your skin if you forget to wash your hands afterwards.

well actually it hasnt been sitting at all i drive it every day but i will definitly try it out spraying in some carb cleaner.

Any recent events that would lead you to believe that it might be seized? Like low on oil or overheated?

The fact that the Mech can't turn the motor by hand and the starter won't work=seized. That fact is established.



If you get the plugs out and the intake off you might as well take the exhaust mani off and look in the Exhaust ports. You would be able to 'see' a lot of good info.

the factory procedure for unsticking a stuck engine is to try to turn it backwards. if you dont have the special tool, theres a hole in the bottom of the transmission you can put a prybar on the flywheel with

The easy (old school) way to turn the engine:

Stick it in 4th & push it backwards a little.



If the primary cables are getting hot, you have a weak connection at the hot spot.
