i didnt get a chance to really investigate the problem, any ideas thoughts questions etc are welcome.

Mine used to be the other way, if you turn too far it acts like a dead battery, nothing happens.

Does the accessory stuff work in the ON position?

Fuel pump relay?

AFM?

The fuel pump flows in the start position, not in the "on" or "run" position like some cars. Then there is a switch in the AFM that turns pump on when airflow is detected. In the S4 at least.
