Is it possible to get a mechanical OMP to work on the s5 engine? I would take the stock electrical one and mount it somewhere discretely, w/ all the holes plugged off.
If i were to use it, i would have to drastically modify the front plate to get it to fit, plus then other parts like oil return line wouldnt be in the right place. So can the gsl-se front cover's OMP work? Thanks ~Geoff |
Why the GSL-SE? Why not the Mechanical OMP (MOP) from an S4?
If you leave it plugged in than I think it should work fine. |
Because the car its going into is a gsl-se, and the 1st gen mountin points require the use of the gsl-se oil pan and front cover.
Is it easy to attach the mechanical OMP to the s5 engine and have it do the same thing? |
no

Ahhh... Not too sure about the mounting.
Anyone? |
banzaitoyota, although i appreciate your input i would like it if you could be a bit more constructive with it and explain how i can get it to work please :-D
Thanks |
"Is it easy to attach the mechanical OMP to the s5 engine and have it do the same thing"
no. You would need to machine the OMP mount area down 1/2"; wels a new plate on that has been machined for a S$ OMP; have the plate milled flat to remove any warping on the plate. Drill and tap the mounting holes and then verify the flange face hieght was the same as the stock flange. Estimated time 6 hours labor at a good shop with a bridgeport mill and TIG capability. Most shops are ~50/hr min. Sooo...$300 to do that: MINUMUM! |
You might be able to do something else, if I have time tonight I will take a look

Why not just lock the OMP wide open?Thats why my T2 swap is from a S4 so I have no electrical BS.

Um banzia I dont think you understood what i said.
how do i get the GSL-SE mechanical OMP to work on the engine, not the s5 omp to work on the front plate.... |
