ok this is gonna make me sound really green but what the hell is the diffrence between the s4 and s5 fc3s im so feakin lost cause im putting the drivetrain and susspension components from a t2 into an na and this s4 or s5 stuff has me wondering if there is like a diffrence in any drive train component of anything hell just for s**ts and giggles can someone tell me all the difrences so i can expand my knowledge of fc's
thanks

its actually pretty simple,
s4= 86-88, low imp-injectors, everything is mostly is mechanical, black trim around taillights
s5= 89-91, high imp-injectors, everything is mostly electrical, 3 circles for the taillights
internals of the engine is different, but mostly interchangeable, s4/s5 transmissions will both mount to either an s4/s5 engine, but will not bolt up to any rear end that does match (ie:s4-s4/s5-s5), all externals of the motor have to match the ECU (is:s4-s4/s5-s5
those are just some basic differences, there are many others, its best just to ask around when you dont know.... we are always here to help

ok so the s4 trany wont mount to an s5 rear end right? so how can i tell the diffrence between the s4 and s5 pumpkin

mazdatrix does make a driveshaft for it. or you can go to a custom driveshaft shop.
couple other things were exterior features also between s4 and s5's. the s5's actually look alot better, with different front and rear bumpers. also interiors were different, but i don't know what. never seen interior of an s5.

alot of the difference between interiors was a slight change in shape of all the panels, not a horribly noticable difference, but enough to tell, s5's do look better, but with the right modifications, you can make an s4 look just as good as an s5... s5's also came with higher horsepower i believe that the s4 n/a was 146hp, and the s5 n/a was 160hp, also the s4 t2 came with 180, and the s5 t2 came with 200...

mistake made fellas. You can swap s5 and s4 rear ends and hook them up to the transmission. My car is s4 with a gtus s5 rear end. It hooks up just fine. Its the turbo parts that don't swap into an n/a. I've never had problems with mixing s4 and s5 drivetrain parts. I could be wrong but my car has no fitment problems.

that's what i was thinking..if you couldn't tell the dif between s4 and s5 rear ends and drivetrains, how couldn't they bolt up?

ya all the s4 s5 drive train stuff is the same.... the only differences in 2nd gen are between turbo and NA as far as what bolts to what...
however a s5 lsd has a vicious type where as the s4 is a clutch type.... so thats a difference depending on your preferance
