which would u pick?

amx TII 09-25-2003 09:02 AM

buy an s4 but do an s5 conversion with engine, tails and spoiler

banzaitoyota 09-25-2003 09:36 AM

s4:WHY?:

1. ECU is more forgiving to mods, ie OMP removal and emissions delete. N/A if you standalone

2. Less weight

3. Better LSD in LSD equipped models. GXL, turbo

4. Less Weight

5. Taillights don't look like thunderchikkens and are waaaay cheaper

j9fd3s 09-25-2003 11:08 AM

the s4 doesnt have those fu$%&#^&$ing seatbelts, its 150lbs lighter*, non moddable afm, fuel rails that bolt together, only one tps to keep happy, they dont have the fu$&%*king seatbelts, its lighter, and i like the black mouldings better

mike

*my s4 t2 with 20b = 2860lbs

s5 gtus with s5 t2 swap = 2920!!!

banzaitoyota 09-25-2003 12:04 PM

S4 OWNERS UNITE!

Baldy 09-25-2003 12:40 PM

this makes me feel good about my s4 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

relisys190 09-25-2003 12:50 PM

S4 for sure... if i had a T2, it'd be an 87 T2, ummmm S4 owners unite for sure!!

-Markus

"I've driven an S5.. blah"

banzaitoyota 09-25-2003 01:08 PM

And how about those non-replaceable ball-joints on the S5's!!!!

MazdaEnthused 09-25-2003 01:16 PM

Sweet i own an 87 T2 i guess i lucked out more then i thought cause i love my T2 i'm having a paint job done this weekend. S4's all the way

FCmaniac 09-25-2003 01:22 PM

S4! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I do like the look a bit better of the S5 T2's though. That's about it.

gtr13bt-fc 09-25-2003 01:34 PM

thanx abunch guys, haha i am buying a 87 TII project car with ALOT wrong with it, lol

75 Repu 09-25-2003 02:05 PM

Maybe I should look into getting that s4 T2 I have seen abandoned out by my sisters place then.. haha

Turbo II 09-25-2003 02:36 PM

yes s4 rules all! cause of those stupid ass seatbelts. like mike said. i prefer an 88 s4 though

MazdaEnthused 09-25-2003 06:08 PM

as long as it runs because you dont really know what kind of problems you could be having if it doesn't run... i got lucky and only had a fuel problem (bad tank and pump and ****) and brake problems and rear bushing problems and Powersteering problems and now an oil problem were i dont have a leak but i'm loosing oil

Ni5mo180SX 09-25-2003 06:21 PM

Heh, performance of a stripped S4 for me, with a complete S5 exterior https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Robbomaz 09-25-2003 06:24 PM

S4 with S5 motor & box!

I agree with most things here (especially those farking balljoints!)

We have the normal belts here on all models, and never bother playing with factory ECU's

But don't forget S5 engine has higher compression, lighter flywheel and rotors, better exhaust manifold & split pulse turbo with much larger wastegate area. None of this really matters if you are upgrading tho https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

You boys S4 have noticed the resonance that goes thru the gearbox @3500 in 4th at full throttle? S5 gearbox has a harmonic balancer on the output shaft to eliminate that. We use S5 boxes with steel flywheels that take S4 clutches, cos the range of performance clutches in the smaller size is far greater!

lol if that made some sense in any of the 3 times i tried to read that it woulda helped... and i was told that the higher compression rotors weren't any better for somthing

Rob x-7 09-25-2003 08:30 PM

1 Attachment(s)
only S5 part on my car is the ebrake handle

I always said Im keeping my car S4, because everyone else converts to S5

the lights dont look bad on a black car, I likes them

MazdaEnthused 09-25-2003 08:46 PM

i have a black t2 and i would like it if i had s5 tails espessialy for the night efect.... and i myself am one for the rest s4 though

Rob x-7 09-25-2003 08:50 PM

black s4 lights painted black look good, but you have to paint them, get rid of that crackly plastic look

Sorry! Get a bit carried away sometimes. Hi-comp rotors give better off-boost drivability but total boost is limited to 12-13PSI.

I get dead pissed with the prices you guys pay for FC/D's over there! A nasty non-running Turbo 2 would still be $5K here.

yah i put the s4 tails back on my car, now its all s4 on the outside

mike

Erik 09-25-2003 09:20 PM

I'll have to stick up for the S5 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I agree with Mike...the seatbelts suuuuuuuuuuuuuck!

The moldings/nose/side skirts/tails/rims/interior on the S5s IMO really make it a better car visually and comfort wise...Performance wise in stock for I also feel the S5 has the edge

All depends on what you want to use it for...if I had to choose between a stock 91 T2 and a stock 87 T2 that I was keeping stock or lightly modded...there is no way I'd take the 87. But thats just me...I'm not into heavily modifying the cars. If you will be transforming the car, the S4 might be a better starting platform.

Good luck with the choice https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

O man you are def. in austrailia can you hook me up with an RX-3

UniqueTII 09-26-2003 01:33 PM

S4, no doubt. I'm surprised that this threat hasn't been taken over by S5 people, though.

MazdaEnthused 09-26-2003 01:40 PM

yes i def. love my s4 as well

Red Suns 09-26-2003 01:49 PM

WHAT? how in the hell do you fix them if they break? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif are they just not very accesiable or something? That sucks.... i guess im getting a series 4 and making the conversion now that modding a S5 as posted earlier one especially with the computer is it? is really hard.... geeez... and i like the S5 too.

You buy a new control arm ~ $250.00 each

Red Suns 09-27-2003 02:29 PM

So you cant moddify the S5 engine? The computer is not very responsive? whats the low down on this car besides more weight and higher compression? if I wanted to say turn this car into a drift machine, or just say get a little more HP, am i gonna have problems? Thanks a bunch.

Turbo II 10-14-2003 07:05 PM

lets keep this one going

1Revvin7 10-14-2003 09:08 PM

Yea I did the s4 chassis, s4 t2 drivetrain, s5 motor, and tails. And I'm going to do s5 body moldins along with some side skirts and a better front bumper..

7mech 10-14-2003 10:09 PM

I love my S5. The seatbelts do suck though. I think it looks better and was easier to mod then my friend's 87 TII. Also my 90 TII has more power then his. I almost beat my friend's 87TII when he had a new engine, turbo, 550 primaries, 720 secondaries, SAFC, manual boost controller(set for 10 psi), air intake, full exhaust, tires, suspension, bov, fuel pump, and all I had was a crappy cone filter on my car. My computer responded very well to all of my mods until I decided to replace it with an E6K because my AFM was going bad. Now I have a ported motor, hybrid turbo( stock turbine side, ported wastegate, T60-1 compressor side), MSD 6A ignition box( leading only), stainless steel braided oil cooler lines, mazdacomp motor mounts, and everything else listed in my sig. I'm still braking in my motor and have yet to see it's full potential, but from what I can tell from just driving around with the ported motor it will be kick-ass.

Now what's up with the shag carpet in the S4 cars? The brick for an AFM? All the problems from old age and bad care? The ugly looking stock guages? The heavier and uglier rims? That's all I can think of for now. I'll get back with more questions that I think makes the S4 an uglier and poorer performing car when I can remember more about them.

75 Repu 10-14-2003 10:10 PM

I dont have the seat belt prob since my S5 is a vert.. Love the lights.. although I laughed the other day when I saw an old T-bird like the one someone compared them too.. they were right.. hahaha..

7mech 10-14-2003 10:19 PM

BTW don't get me wrong I love all the 7's. I also believe that a 2nd gen is a 2nd gen and A TII is a TII. I like both cars but I perfer my s5 TII because of the power and styling over the s4 TII. I also like it because it just happens to be my first 7.

teknics 10-14-2003 10:44 PM

my s5 rawks.

i have an s4 vert e-brake handle though...it had a pretty chrome colored plastic trim ring, i had to get it, so purty https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

the looks of the s5 are what do it for me, sure i could waste time effort and money by converting an s4 to s5, but im one lazy mofo.

kevin.

Rotorn00b 10-14-2003 10:58 PM

i got an s4 too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

DaddyMac 10-15-2003 01:44 PM

the only good thing about the S5 is that the radio center surround is better, but you can put it in an S4.

The S4 guage cluster is ******* oooglie !!

those circles are hideous https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png
