Im thinking about getting the first gen S-AFC instead of the flashy expensive digi one everyone else has. You guys know what im talking about the one with the knobs. One can usually acquire one for under or around 100 bucks, what do you guys think about them? Thanks

those dont have the low and high fuel map, so its not as good as the funky newer ones

and if u are wondering how much power u can gain from tunning your car with an afc i have a sample

this is on a NA btw

I have the cheapo first gen safc but I didnt get it in yet..

Kahren, that's impressive, do you have any fuel mods on the NA? Were those gains from the SAFC adjustment only?

kahren 05-25-2003 01:46 AM

safc only, na fuel system is good for about 220 at wheels with a .55 BSFC

the stock car runs really rich u can lean it out, and get a bunch of power,

i am still runnign safely rich i can lean out more, but i use 87 octane gas the

timing is slightly retarded and thats why i didnt lean out the car.

this is on a 91 NA, with full RB exhaust and mild street port, the street port

realyl doesnt do **** untill u get some real intak manifolds, teh stock ones are just

way too long and narrow to complement the port.

i am only gettign maybe like 5 more whp then same car without a port.

but the gains still good for the stock car, u can get about 10 whp just by leaning

it out on a completely stock car

I dont have a streetport but I did port the TB, match the manifolds, and put in the pineapple inserts.. I noticed now that the power band seemed to shift higher up.. I lost some low end but it is pulling much better now from 6-8k. I need to get the safc in and get it tuned if you say its worth it (which it looks like it is).

Thanks for the info.

k2rd dyno'ed thier its car (stock s5 motor, with cone filter and exhaust, big big exhaust) and the air fuel ratio was in the 10's, it would make a bunch more power leaning it out

Holy **** in the 10s?!?! Thats like richer than a turbo car should need. Dont turbos run good at something like 11.5:1 and thats even with a good saftey margin? Anyways, thanks for the info guys, i might get it, i might just save up another hundred or so and get the second gen. What i really want is a cheap DIY Stand alone, anyone heard of "megasquirt" and if thats any good? Thanks guys. Hell... i might get crazy and slap an evil snail on the side of this motor, who knows, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
