other than just removing the pumps,,,do i need to remove everything with them?(meaning everything that has to do with the specific one) i want to remove the belts and see if i feel a difference in engine running,,,TIA Leo

vosko 07-23-2002 10:49 AM

you don't have to remove EVERYTHING but if your gonna bother you might as well. i would probably leave the power steering though. when i took mine out i put in a manual rack. you will save a good bit of weight but its a good amount of work to remove everything https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 10:58 AM

no i dont want to remove the p/s because i just realized the work out i will get by just driving,,,,so leaving the p/s i will have to leave the big bracket as well?

UniqueTII 07-23-2002 11:24 AM

I am ripping out my P/S and leaving the stock rack in there. If I get bigger arms as a side effect, that's fine with me.

Shane.Trammell 07-23-2002 11:33 AM

are you sure unique? my ps belt broke the other day and i could barely turn the wheel. I am not a body builder but im not screech from saved by the bell!

UniqueTII 07-23-2002 11:41 AM

It's easier to turn it once the pump has been removed. When the belt breaks, you have to push fluid through the stopped pump when you turn the wheel. When you take out the system, you just move it through the rack.

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 11:43 AM

i just took off all unnecesery belts ,,,and my car seems to be running a little quieter,,,why is that? and the air pump still spins by its self,,,not as fast but sdtill does

Pull off the air pump, and cap the hose that goes to the ACV. Or buy the ACV block off plate, and remove it too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

UniqueTII 07-23-2002 11:49 AM

What does the ACV do if you leave the lines to it open? Will it cause a vacuum leak or something? I started my car the other day with mine open and it seemed fine. I think I am going to fabricate a block-off plate. Can I use one for an N/A as a template? RD has one on his red N/A.

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 11:52 AM

lol whats an ACV?

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 11:52 AM

Air Control Valve???

ILUVMY88CABRIO 07-23-2002 11:55 AM

I have no clue what it does, I know it is an emissions thing, and helps with afterburn, and deceleration.

So no one makes a plate for the TII? I was trying to find it on RB's web site, but couldn't. I guess I can make my own.

UniqueTII 07-23-2002 11:57 AM

Mazdatrix lists the same part for both N/A and TII last I checked, but they say you have to do something with the vacuum lines, but I don't think they say what. Trial and error has worked pretty well so far. lol

Shane.Trammell 07-23-2002 11:59 AM

ok should i do this stuff to mine?? does it help much?

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 12:09 PM

by the way what is this block off plate??? is that a plug? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/mellow.png

/\ /\ That is the plate for a NA /\ /\ https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Racing Beat sells them for $6.

UniqueTII 07-23-2002 12:16 PM

Mazdatrix says you need to add a vacuum fitting to use one on a TII.

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-23-2002 12:17 PM

 so where does this block off plate go??? and what exactly does it do???

Damn, I don't know what is up with that, it cut part of the image off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png WTF?!?!

sleeperRX7 07-24-2002 10:22 PM

i took the belt off my power steering awhile ago cause i broke the tension screw/nut and i wasnt to difficult to turn standing still, it was fine after 1 mph. eventually i removed the a/c and ps pump as well as its bracket and i also removed the airp pump, you also need a dual alternator pulley if you remove the air pump or your water pump may slip and really hurt your wallet, and you need the acv block off plate too.when i removed the ps pump completely it was even easier to turn than when just the belt was off,cap off all the lines and such. uhm just a word of concern about removing the ac. when you removed the high line on the firewall next to the hydraulic fluid resivoir, be sure to get away as soon as you discharge the R12 refrigerant in the system, dont breathe it in! that **** can give you cancer,go blind, basically really **** you up bad. i read some horror story of a guy breathing it in and he passed out for 3 days, just a word of caution. all in all you lose a lot of upsprung weight when you launch, id say about 80 lbs. or so. later

is finally asleep................ :bigok:

UniqueTII 07-25-2002 10:30 AM

It's sprung weight, not unsprung. I got my P/S pump and A/C compressor off yesterday...I just have to worry about the P/S lines and the fact that my water pump is pissing all over the place, and I'll be in business.

I would recommand to fit a P/S line (hose) between the 2 openings of the steering rack to keep the dust from going in there. If you cap them you'll get pressure so fitting a hose would connect the input with the output.

vosko 07-25-2002 08:18 PM

unique buy one of those dual belt alternator pullies while your going crazy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-26-2002 09:03 AM

i would like to thank everyone for their help,,,im am now going to go and rip everything out of the engine bay

Leo

UniqueTII 07-26-2002 09:56 AM

Powerpack, I had planned on connecting those two lines to equalize pressure on the two sides of the rack.

vosko, that is part of my plan...one of these days. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
