Has anyone ever tried this?

After I pulled the fan shroud off of my parts car, I could see that there is a fair amount of space between the oil pan and the cross member. It seems that with a set of custom engine mounts and a new tranny cross member, the whole assembly could be moved many inches. I think this would have a big impact on handling. Obviously a new drive shaft would have to be made, but that would be pretty minor.

What is the ratio for the 2 gen? Thought it was 50/50...no?

Well, I guess I should have clarified that my car is completely gutted, so the original weight distribution is totaly out the window. Plus I'll have fiberglass front fenders and hood. Once I put the engine and tranny into the race car, I'll put it on scales to see what the distribution is.

Moving the engine down wouldn't change the weight dist, but rearward would.

I'm doing everything I can to make the car handly like it's nobody's business. I saw the space for the relocation, so I thought I'd ask. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

What other weight mods are you going to attempt?

ie; if your gonna have a fibre glass front end, and you gut the interior, put in a plexi glass(or what ever they put in replace of that heavy ass window) rear window hatch, you weight ratio should almost be the same as when you started.

I think that would be easier(and more reasonable method of getting you car to be the handling god) then moving the actual motor back a few inches.

I'm already doing all of that, and then some... fuel cell less than 5 gal., lightened doors, removed sound deadening tar, no lights of any kind, etc. The goal is 1900lbs.

As you can see, no interior what-so-ever. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I've since removed the tail lights too. And there is nothing behind that bumper, or fuel filler door either.

OMG...I eat my words then. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Do you know what the ratio is now as is?

looks........ ummm rooomy

He he, there is no motor in the car right now. That's why I bought the other parts car, to swap the motor and tranny into it. Once I get it swapped I'll corner weigh it to see how close I am to my projected weight, and what the dist. is like.

I have always wonderd why 1st gens mounted on the front. 2nd gens mounted in the middle and 3rd gens mount on the back? I wonder if there is enough meat in the rear plate to use the 3rd gen mounts and just fab up a resting place on the frame rails? Just thinking out loud here. Hope it helps.
