Hey everyone, I have owned an 86 rx7 since 2002, but after I graduated high school in 04, I haven't really had the greatest opportunity to take her out. My little brother drove it for a year or so, but it eventually started stuttering and dying on him, so my dad just parked it. I tried to do a little bit of troubleshooting on it over the summer, but I could only spare a little bit of time because I had to rebuild the transfer case on my main vehicle as well as build a garage for the parents.

I'm not as fresh on rx7 writ as I once was, but I am far more capable with automobiles now, so I think I can finally tackle the persistant problems that the 7 gave me in high school. This summer, I started off by just charging the battery, and cranking the engine from the starter. While cranking, I checked to make sure there was spark, Check. I pulled a plug to do the quick and dirty compression check, and there was a solid chain of whooshing coming from the engine, check. I just assumed the maf is good for this exercise. After not seeing the characteristic mist of fuel being shot from the spark plug holes. This prompted me to do a little test.

With the key in the on position, I carefully used a pair of pliers and pulled the feed fuel line slighly off of the metal tube that runs under the intake manifold. High pressure fuel promptly misted out, and I quickly shoved the line back on the nipple. To make sure that fuel was actually getting to the injectors, I did the same procedure on the outlet side, and lo and behold, there was no fuel flowing. At this point I said f*ck, and dropped the hood close. Haven't been back home since August, but I'll be home for about 4 of the next 8 weeks, and I was kinda hoping I could get the old beast running again.

If anyone has ever had this problem, and can tell me what boneheaded thing I did to break it, I would be very appreciative, or at least a way to trouble shoot the pressure regulator, pulsation dampener, injectors, and fuel line.

Thanks.

Since the first post was so long, I decided to split this up. Here's the history/mods on the car:

Bought in November of 02, drove 300 miles home trouble free. Drove twice, and on the second time, the oil pressure sensor line fell off. Fixed it, and then the pops wanted me to take it to the dealer to be checked over by a mechanic to make sure I wouldn't kill myself. Took it to the dealer on Dec. 31st. After driving 15 of 16 miles to the dealer, smoke started coming from the vents. Pulled into the circuit city parking lot, popped the hood, and saw flames. Dropped the hood, ran inside and grabbed a fire extinguisher. Got the fire put out, and had it towed to the dealer. Appraised at something stupid like $7k in damage by them. Took it home, bought a donor car from Indiana, and replaced pretty much everything under the hood back to stock. Started the first crank once it was put back together. Drove it trouble free for two more years, and then went to college. I only drove it sporadically when I came home, and it was losinig power for some reason. Looked under the car, and saw a red hot cat. Gutted cats, bought RB headers. Problem fixed. Drove more. Next summer, decided that the emissions system was worthless with no cats... Removed Rat's nest(leaving hard fuel line), air pump. Brother started driving it, and it died eventually. It has sat for a little over a year now with only periodic cranking.

I am hoping that I can someday get it back in shape, and maybe do a bit of auto-xing in her.
