I'm planning on TII engine swap

Can you guys tell me if I should rebuilt JSPEC engine even before putting it in the car or not? I'm planning on getting one + trany soon and heard that it's a gamble - may stat may not. I haven't bought the engine yet.

My goal is 300-350WHP maybe more in the future if I like the car a lot.

Just for saftys sake get a compression test done on it. Or if you just want to start with a clean slate do a rebuild. They arent cheap though.

 

if you're gonna go thru all that trouble, i would at least pull it apart and replace the water and oil seals.

 

someone told me that a couple of companies that sell j-spec engines test them before they sell them, but im not 100% sure thats true. where are you getting the engine from? im getting mine from jdmenginescorp.com

 

They "say" they are tested... this testing is actually performed after the motor is removed from the car and before it ships to the USA..so there is no real truth on that.. I worked at a shop where before we demolished the cars, we would start the engine up, check for leaks, etc and even do compression tests. Not that you'll find a rotary at a salvage yard, but they are more reputable then a jspec dealer... I never had good luck w/ JSpecs...

if your paying someone else to do it, thats like $1700-$2000 right there

 

i would rebuild it since i got two with blown coolant seals when i did buy them........its all a risk whenever you buy a used engine

 

Rebuilt you mean change seals on the outside or apexi seals and internall stuff also?

 

honestly, if your going to tear it down..and your goal is over 300whp.. replace the seals..all of them, and do a streetport...should be good there...



Really you should just get new housings, etc to make more power...and have a more reliable powerful engine..
