i had emailed hayes and they called me back and the guy said that the most i could do to an n/a was a stage 1 street port becuase of the 5th and 6th ports. does any of this kinda of stuff ringa bell to yall or could i expect more from a n/a engine????

The hayes guys like to play by the rules. Ignore him, lol. You can just wire the 5th & 6th ports open and go full out bridgeport if you want. What are you looking for? Street performance? Street/Strip performance? Mostly Race? Or ALL race? There's a dif between them....you can easily get over 300HP all motor.

rotary88 07-23-2002 07:27 PM

well i need something drivable but i also want something that i can kick ass with sometimes and have an ok engine life

rotary88 07-23-2002 07:32 PM

also how can i wire open the 5th and 6th ports

Push them open and wrap wire around them and twist.

I bought a couple of Bosch 30 Amp relays and ordered my solenoids yesterday in an attempt to make them electric. I'll let you know how it goes.

With the 6 ports totally closed the motor seems to lose power @ 5,000 RPM. With them wired open it loses some bottem end torque but screams up to it's redline.

Rotaryman88 07-23-2002 08:38 PM

I would go w/ a larger streetport. I wouldnt go nuts w/ a bridge or jbridge or peripheal...those are basically race only. A large streetport will gain you 40HP or so and depending on what else you do to the car, you could easily have a nice quick NA that is still reliable on the street.

As for the 5th & 6th ports, you just wire the actuators to stay open all the time...I don't have a step by step for this, but I'm sure somebody on here does, lol...you'll loose a lil low end torque(like NAs have it to begin w/)...but you'll gain in the top...its a loose/win situation, lol...

rotary88 07-23-2002 08:45 PM

well besides hayes what are some other good places that i can get it ported at and does anybody (pleaing to god lol) have any instructions on how to do the 5th and 6th port thing?? :flush:

Rotaryman88 07-23-2002 08:55 PM

Try www.pineappleracing.com

I've heard good things about them....and i'm sure somebody will come along w/ the 5th & 6th ports answer...I know its not hard, I just dont know the exact method...

rotary88 07-23-2002 09:12 PM

i know this is a real dumbass question but what do the 5th and 6th ports do for ya and how does it help if there always open :bigok:

vosko 07-23-2002 09:15 PM

the only downside to having your 5 & 6 ports wired open is you lose a little but of lowend torque. that is a ok with me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

rotary88 07-23-2002 09:18 PM

yea but what is exactly are the 5th and 6th ports there for and what is the plus side if there always open?????

Rotaryman88 07-23-2002 09:18 PM

The 5th & 6th ports are they to adjust airflow into the motor at higher RPMs to give you an extra "umhf" of power...they are also used to give you a little more low end power..due to the rotaries not having any really, lol. If they are always open, they will just allow more air in all the time, which in turns lessens the low end torque...but will also increase the airflow at higher RPMs. They are activated on '86 to '88 NA rx7s by exhaust backpressure, thus when you free up the exhaust or do large porting, there isn't enough backpressure to open them...thus killing power in the top end. Lol....getting all this? '89 and newer NA rx7s are not controlled by exhaust backpressure...so they don't have to worry about it. I hope all that made sense https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

thanks rotaryman88 finally someone explained this, everyday i learn more stuff about rotaries, god help me if there werent forums :bigok: :bigok:

I hope you're right...my pineapple motor should be arriving any day now. Can't wait...

rotary88 07-24-2002 09:30 PM

they dont (play by the books) as rotaryman88 says, as much as hayes does do they because hayes they would only allow a stage 1 street port on my 88n/a would pineapple just ignore that stuff i guess

Hey dude, my friend spent about 2 years in Savannah for the Army. He has some pretty crazy stories about St. Patricks Day and some pictures too!

About the porting, I had a streetport done on my 88 n/a housings by Atkins Rotary. I haven't got the engine back together yet, but I think it should run real nice with the port. Here are some pics.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/upl...1027572998.jpg

ILUVMY88CABRIO 07-25-2002 06:34 AM

I think it was $300 for a street port.

banzaitoyota 07-25-2002 07:45 AM

I like my Pineapple. AGGH How much did Atkins charge you for the grinder mark on your face?

Rotarydragon 07-25-2002 12:40 PM

I was wondering the same, how deep is that mark?

ChainSawOnSteroids 07-25-2002 04:05 PM

so wait a second,,,if i get my engine ported(jbridge) then i have to open them as well???,,,what else do i have to do?its stock,,,i know about the injectors(720cc at least) but what else will i need?

This is not a street port...Who owns this Isamu?Reply with what kinda port this is ..I have seen alot of ports..but never this one..

isamu 07-25-2002 10:54 PM

It is just a regular street port. The scratch is nothing, I can't even feel it. The way the light hits it makes it stand out.

vosko 07-25-2002 10:59 PM

JUDGE ITO's six port street port https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
