Okay, so I think I know what the problem is, I just want to get an expert opinion. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif I have done the mods listed in my sig. My 1/4-mile time last fall before mods was 15.6. I just ran again last Friday, and my best time was 15.5. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

I think the car is running way too rich because of the new fuel pump. I have an A/F gauge and it reads richer (like totally pinned rich) under full throttle than it did before I added the pump. I suppose it's good because I don't need to worry about detonation, but I wanna go faster! Do I need a fuel computer to lean it out a little? Any other (cheap) options? I know the stock airbox has to go next, along with the TID.

Also, how hard is it to tune a S-AFC? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

how much boost are you running? shouldnt it be faster than that even rich?

You've got to get it to lean down a little. The S-AFC isn't hard to control, you just have to read the manual and make sure you understand it. It allows you to control at 500RPM increments, so its good for what you want. With the free flowing exhaust you have and the ported WG, your probably creeping up to around 10-11psi, but you say you have a stock airbox? That has got to go. If you lean out your mixture, and get a cone or at least a dropin K&N...you should drop to low 15s easily! What are your 60ft times? Tires good? That car should be in the 14s with those mods...it's just going to take some tuning....

Actually...you didnt mention an FCD...do you hit fuel cut when racing??? With the exhaust work done I would assume you do...if not, then your not going over 8psi for sure...and that alone will keep you in the 15s....

wheres vosko? should you be in the 14's with stock boost?

That's a contradiction. If your WG is ported, your boost doesn't creep. I have a full exhaust and intake and I rarely go over 6psi.

i wouldn't lean it out. i would see how much boost you are running and get a boost controller and FCD so you can run 10psi

Wow. Lots of helpful hints.

Sorry I forgot to mention the FCD. I have one. I also still have the stock boost gauge ( I know, I know, it's on the list). It runs the stock gauge up to near full scale, but doesn't pin it.

My 60' times are like 2.4 secs. I'm still working on finding a spot between high RPM clutch dumps--which yield nothing but spin and some nasty wheel hop, and a more restrained take off.

Tires are Dunlops. Old Dunlops.

first investment should be drag radials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have had a atleast a mid 14 with a good launch on drag radials

UniqueTII 05-06-2003 01:07 PM

Yeah, a good launch would help you a lot.
