Okay, so I'm pretty much decided that I'll buy a late Christmas present for my car. Seeing as it most often sees action at the dragstrip, I want to restrain the engine a bit during launches. Was wondering if anyone had experience with the RB unit, and what other units I could consider. I see that Mazdatrix offers one with their strut bar, but I don't feel I need a strut bar, and I don't see them listing it separately.
How easy is the install? Does it interfere with any stock equipment? Seems like it would be a simple bolt-on to me. |
i have a write up i saved for it b/c im looking to do it myself somtime in the near future. im sure its the same for turbo

Thanks for the link. I just ordered the brace. I'll post pics once I get it and get it installed. Still love to hear from anyone regarding the performance of this item.

Just more crap in the engin bay in my opinion. Just use stiffer mounts or solid mounts.

Figured this would be a good cheap fix for now, and a little extra restraint can't hurt. Here's a stupid question: Can I put in new mounts without pulling the engine? I'm sure the mounts I have are ready to quit. How much noise/vibration do solid mounts transmit to the cabin? |
you dont have to pull it but you do need to support it with wood blocks on a jack and you can loosen the bolts that hold them onto the motor and manuver them out put you dont have to pull the motor

Well, it showed up right on time in a pretty RB box, in perfect condition delivered by Brown. Now maybe sometime before 2008, I'll find the time to put it on the car! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif
You don't get much for $81 (including freight), but hey, when a cup of coffee costs five bucks, you don't expect a whole lot for $81. Stay tuned for a review on the unit's performance, but don't expect it anytime soon! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif |

Good luck... it's not easy to install. It's hard to drill a hole in the space because the space is so cramped. Then trying to get access to those bell housingbolts... ouch...
To be honest. I didn't notice that much of a differnece. With that brace now the tranny and diff take more of the shock loading compared to the shock being shared across the 3 mounts (engine, tranny, diff). Now it's shared only on two (tranny and diff). I guess the engine shares a little, but not much. |
Whew! Well, I got it in and got the car put back together. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Haven't driven it yet. It's kinda cold and rainy here today.
Kind of a frustrating job. The nut on a stick was definitely the worst part. I must have tried to get that thing threaded on the shaft 50 times before I actually got it. Part of the problem was that I drilled the hole a tad too high and the washer welded to the nut would hit on the top inside of the fender. Had to grind a little of the washer off. The bellhousing bolts were no picnic either, but that went fairly quickly. |
we nd good pictures
