I'm looking at a starter to replace mine and wanted to know what the difference btw an auto and a manual is for the starter. Is there a difference? Or can I pick up any one that matches my year ('86)? Thanks all

Auto or t2 starters will not work. You have to find another 5speed n/a starter.

Thanks 1Revvin7. I just went out and changed my positive terminal lead and tried to start it, just for kicks. It started, and the starter worked quicker and healthier than when I first got the car. I'm still going to be looking fora new starter though, just in case. Thanks again

Excellent. I need to change mine too, now that you mention it.

It also wouldn't be a bad idea to get decent (or at least able to) at push starting your car. Then if the starter does go out, it goes from "AAARRRGGGH!" to "Meh." The general idea is to turn the key to the run position, start the car moving (doesn't take much), let the clutch out in 1st or 2nd (people seem to find 2nd works better), and when it starts push the clutch back in and let it idle. I haven't learned to do it smoothly yet, but I can do it if needed.

If you can change the alternator at the same time. BIG difference.
