hey guys, i am thinkin of puttin 2 Apexi N1 style mufflers on my 87 t2. i was just wondering if anyone could describe what this would sound like. i hollowed out the first cat. and the second one is an aftermarket high flow cat. and it has all new 2 1/2 inch piping. i know its not gonna sound like a 4 banger but i dont want it to sound like a 125 dirtbike either. i was just wonderin if anyone has run a similar setup and knows what it sounds like. thanks

very loud pretty much describes it. No matter what you do to your car, it will sound like a 2 stroke, thats what a rotary sounds like.

Also, if your car is a NA, it will be a hell of alot louder, not just very loud.

Damn, it wouldnt let me edit my post

If they are the real N1s, very loud pretty much describes it.

If they are the N1 style from EBay, they sound pretty good. Here is a clip of my exhaust

there is a problem that is a little off topic but it has been bothering me. when my car is idling, it doesnt matter if its cold or warm, there is always backfiring occuring about every five seconds. its not really loud but it sounds like low bass frequencies, lol. what could be causing this? i am bringin this up now because i am sure its gonna get noticably louder with the mufflers. thanks

Its part of being a rotary, it'll miss a pulse every now and then.
