hey guys, i am thinkin of puttin 2 Apexi N1 style mufflers on my 87 t2. i was just wondering if anyone could describe what this would sound like. i hollowed out the first cat. and the second one is an aftermarket high flow cat. and it has all new 2 1/2 inch piping. i know its not gonna sound like a 4 banger but i dont want it to sound like a 125 dirtbike either. i was just wonderin if anyone has run a similar setup and knows what it sounds like. thanks

very loud pretty much describes it. No matter what you do to your car, it will sound like a 2 stroke, thats what a rotary sounds like.
Also, if your car is a NA, it will be a hell of alot louder, not just very loud. |

What are you running exactly exhaust wise? And that was revved to 3krpm it sounded like? Give me details on what you have, I am interested. |

there is a problem that is a little off topic but it has been bothering me. when my car is idling, it doesnt matter if its cold or warm, there is always backfiring occuring about every five seconds. its not really loud but it sounds like low bass frequencies, lol. what could be causing this? i am bringin this up now because i am sure its gonna get noticably louder with the mufflers. thanks

Its part of being a rotary, it'll miss a pulse every now and then.

Man. sorry it took me so long to reply, works been crazy.
The exhaust clip is also at a 600 rpm idle and the IC piping was not connected, so it revs really slow. When the pipes are hooked up, it goes to about 3K, then instantly to 7K. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I have a 3.5 inch from the turbo back to the rear axle where it Ys in to 2 2.5 inch pipes, then in to some EBay N1 style mufflers. My new setup s a 4 inch from the turbo back to the axle, then in to 2 4 inch in/out mufflers, then 2 4 inch pipes out of the rear. Talk about flow. I dont think I will have a problem with back pressure. This setup is not on my car yet because I am waiting for my TO4R to come in. |
