Default Question... over here!

Hello every one, so i am about to by my first fc3s. i have had 2 rx7's in the past and i LOVED them like most do. i have had an 82' with the most peppy 12a iv ever driven.. (lol not saying alot) with the Daytona wide body and whale tail, and an 84' gsl-se with the 13b. i lost both of them due to events i wont get into cuz id kill this computer.. lol jk. but im about to get my hands on a 88'. and i found some new info and didnt quite understand the difference and i was hoping some of you could brake it down for me. what is the difference of the s4 and s5 fc's? and how to tell them apart? i know tail lights so far but thats about it. im pretty sure im picking up an s4.. but its still a fc so idc. i have 1 13b rebuild under my belt and im a mech by day so even the small things id like to know. thanks for your time and i hope others can use this in the future.

Wow. Pretty quiet in here. S4 refers to models sold from 1986 through 1988. S5 was sold from 1989 to 1991. Not too many differences. The taillights as you mentioned, plus body color side molding on the S5, black on the S4. S5 made 200HP stock vs. 182 for the S4. Sorry, those are turbo numbers! :-)

Good luck with the car!

Other forums include some other minor updates for s5 engines. I believe the compression is slightly different and na intake and front cover. Easiest visible difference I would guess would be the oil metering pump - if its still there and iselectric then s5. I know my s4 tii omp is mechanical. Someone may have to correct me if this isn't true 100% of the time.
