a question about the ac/power steering

before i go a head and remove the power steering question is will I be trying to turn like i was driving a 1962 cady? how much does it effect a 88 n/a?



any problems when the removed ac/power steering hardware is out of the car known issus?

However, if you remove the P/S the wrong way it will screw it up.

^That is the best way to depower your steering rack. Or you can always swap in a manual steering rack.

ty, ya i was just fixing a example i'd drove a normal car without p/s and its like driving a boat on land.

well just drove my friend's 87 rx7 without p/s its not much difference least not very noticeable time to get start on my car thanks once again

taking the belt off you are still pumping all the fluid through the system... makes it much harder.

no power steering is so much more fun to drive... you can actually "feel" the car... its great.

I have taken my power steering out and just left a little bit of fluid in it and looped the lines. Its not too bad except sitting still. I have had it for about 8 months or so. However, i thought i remember someone saying something about welding a part of it so it doesn't fail, does any one know what im talking about.

That was me. The hydraulic part of an assisted rack has the rack in two halves seperated by a piston which is pushed by the pump. If you remove the ps, you remove the push and effectively have the piston pulling instead, which it wasn't designed for. It doesn't help that usually the piston is held to the 2 pinions by some kind of flexible material and not metal. But it should be quite easy to take the rack apart and weld the 2 halves together.
