this summer the gulf coast was hit by two back 2 back storms. i had no idea this meant that the cheap gas i bought at walmart is now "watered" due to flooding. so, off i went to the interstate to burn off bad fuel.

when i ran @ 3k RPM in fifth all went well. I had true dual exhaust and they were starting to humm, so i accelerated to 4k in the rpm. i had the radio goin cause i heard a good song. well when i turned the radio down, it was to my dismay that the engine was now making a sound similar to an old ford van exhaust leak.

i pulled out some fuel hose and made a stethoscope...

I checked the headers for noiss- none

I checked the egr bypass for noise- none

i checked the plugs for noise- none.

i have what appeared 3 whooses from each the plug holes.

i got rid of ALL the water in the system

i changed the oil.

I poured mystery oil down the carbs-

and still that ticking or puff sound.- especially when i give it gas from low rpms.

After 4k then the engine will sound close to normal again. every now and then it wont make a tick sound till after warming up.

The engine smokes when i give it sudden gas.

I have lost most of the low end torque

it sounds like the noise came from inside the carb chamber. I noticed when i seen it "spit" some gas out

I have a 86rx7 with an 88 motor. Dellorto 48 sides, RB headers, dual in-out cats, and a holley red for a pump. I bypassed the egr, removed everything (a/c, air pump, everything i could get rid of)

all i wanted was a clean engine- what is that horrible noise?

is it an apex or corner seal? pleez... help!

sounds like compression leaking back into the intake due to a cracked apex or something, or maybe stuck. time for a compression test to be sure.

i feel that i should try the ATF treatment. then will follow with a compression test. this was the first good clue after 2 months. thanx for the quick help.
