Well it all started to happen yesterday. Every time i make a right turn i hear a grinding sound from the drivers side front wheel. I ruled it out to be the caliper rubbing the rotor. The brake pade is worn on an angle which leads me to think it is a wheel bearing. The reason i think it is that also is the fact that i was hit by a illegal mexican that was drunk last week. That i guess broke the wheel bearing. I can shake the car and it does not have any play in that area but it still grinds.Please help! also Has anyone done a wheel bearing replacement in their driveway?

Bennis, if its a wheel bearing the car wouldnt drive, the wheel would not turn and there would be miles of play, jack the car up with the wheel on it and turn the steering wheel to the right, get underneith the car and spin the wheel, see if it is rubbing up against anything, also check to make sure you caliper isnt rubbing the inside of your rim like mine was, the control arm may be tweaked due to the mexican impact. Replace the pads if there worn to the metal! I love you beavis, aka Sponch bob

you know you do. the control arm is fine and a semi broken bearing will still turn!! The Explorer had the same problem when i first got her.

look on the inside of the rim and see where you are getting scrape-marks, that'll tell u where to look.



Recently the little piece of wire that holds one of my caliper pins in place broke and the pin slid out, scraping on the wheel and making a nasty grinding noise.

Something was loose along with the wheel well ocasionally rubbing made the noise worse. I got in there today and replaced the brakes and tightend some bolts and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the help.

umm I am dumb but have you raised it, spun it , and seen if the wheel wobbles? if your lugs arent torqued right it will do this

I am not dumb and i checked that. The problem was a screaching/grinding noise along with a rubbing which made it sound worse. I tightened everything up and it was fine.
