Okay, so i've been reading these forums regularly for a few weeks now because ive got an rx7 that ive had for about 6 months now but i get to really drive when i turn 16 in 9 days (but, whos counting?). Its a 1988 gxl and the power locks are that of which if the driver either locks or unlocks the door the passenger lock follows suit (i dont know if thats a common feature or not). It all appears to work and the passenger lock goes down to the locked pisition but after i close the driver-side door exiting the car the passenger lock goes back up and the driver lock goes about 1/4 the way up leaving the passenger side unlocked and the driver side locked still. Any clues why?

odd. its one of two things, the switch that tells it to lock or the actuator in the door itself

okay, thanks... i'll have to look into those things and find out what they are before i can see if they're causing a problem =)

but, also, when you lock the doors by using the key from the outside does it still engage the security system? lately ive been using the key method and the security light doesnt seem to light up like it does when i lock the doors from inside.

Just to make sure we're clear...

Do you know the handle needs to be lifted from the outside of the car as you shut the door? Otherwise, you will experience what you have described here.

The process to successfully arm the system is:

1-Open driver side door

2-Depress lock inside driver's door

3-Exit the vehicle

4-Lift door handle on exterior of vehicle

5-Close door with handle lifted
