My 89 GTU has a bad motor and I was wondering if it would be possible to get the power I need out of a reliable dally driven NA 13b to make it as quick as my friends S2k. I've got a spare S5 motor that i'm starting to disassemble right now and i'm wondering what it would take. I know getting 240hp out of one of these things NA is not trivial, and probably not possible without crazy expensive parts. It's my dally driver so I would not like to kill the low end either. I also have a GTUs 4.3 diff at my disposal. even with a good J port can you get close?
I guess the FC has a small edge on the S2k in weight, but not by much... |
carb manifold with, street port, and headers will get you at 200hp(little less or more)
|
i have no problem modifing the fuel injection system. Is the stock manifold a major restriction?
thanks |
yes stock intake manifolds are a major restriction. Kahren has made 200hp with a custom manifold, haltech, fd coils, and stock port motor.
|
is that crank HP, or wheel HP?
|
i can run with a stock one at our 1/8 the mile track ( in my n/a) but they are'nt the best for drag racing
|
I was dead even with my friends S2000 through 3rd gear. Big streetport S5 engine, megasquirt EMS, full exhaust, ported intake manifolds, intake, pulleys, and an 8 lb flywheel. Shifts at 9500 rpm.

Is there any (major) problems with longevity when running that high of an rpm on stock parts?

You dont run those rpm's on stock parts. I did a lot of work to that motor when I built it to make it reliable at those rpm's. Save your money, get a TII. Its cheaper to go fast with a TII than with a n/a. |
