How can you tell if your spark plug wires need to be changed? Can you check the resistance using a meter? I want to know because after my rebuild, they used the wires that were already on the car. Now, these wires are old (10 years) and they sat for over 3 with no use to them. The car seems to run well but I wonder if it could run better with new wires. As I am writing this post I feel I am answering my own question. Not a very expensive thing to change out even if these wires are not bad. What plug wires would you recommend for an '87 GXL?

you can measure the resistance. they usually give a spec in kohms per foot, but you can als make sure they are all close to the same. the stock ngk's are good, and affordable
