I have a Japanese 89 gtx turbo with blitz realize pipes and auto trans. The engine is only 20'000km old. Everything goes well but i have always had a pinking problem when i put my foot up it! It also misses slightly when i change gears if im under high boost. These problems only happen sometimes but i want my 7 to run like a kitten. i have tried new plugs but that didnt help. im thinking maybe the fuel is getting too lean under boost and i might need a fuel pump upgrade? I would greatly appreciate some advice, suggestions or your comments on how your 7 goes and how you got over this problem?

much appreciated Cozmo

i would check the timing first. also the condition of the crank angle sensor, wires, and connector

It could me any number of things causing that problem. Does your fuel pump get the proper voltage? are the vaccum line goint to the pressure regulator in good shape...connected..

Honestly need more info to help with this problem. Automatics are notorious for boost creep on shift so that could be part of your problem. Let us know more about your car and well see.

Thnx for all the advice. Just got the timing done, new plugs and leads and im in the process of doing all the filters(air, fuel, oil ) and then the fuel pump cause i know it's not the best. I'm only runnin 7 pounds of boost so that aint the problem,i put 96 octane gas in my 7 so thats alright. I think that the trans could be causin some of the problem but I got a quote from a local rotor specialist for $2700NZ for a conversion( NZ dollar about 50 USA cents) $2000 just for the parts! I'm gonna do some shoppin around and do my own conversion. An it does still ping but im gettin more power now so its just the fuel pump etc to deal to. thnx again and i will keep you posted.
