Here are some pictures of my engine damage thanks to Rob x-7. This first one shows the 3 cracks at the dowel pin near the oil filter housing.

This is a good shot of the entire face of the housing. Those horizontal lines aren't supposed to be there. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

This last shot shows how the housing cracked all the way to the outside. Upon teardown I found that everything in the motor except for the rear housing was fine. You can also see how the mounting ear on the housing for the transmission broke--it happened before the crack at the dowel pin. I also broke a motor mount a few weeks before that. It runs very well now.

Which car did that motor come out of? Good god man! When you blow a motor, YOU BLOW A MOTOR!!! You must have had like 30PSI and no fuel or something...damn. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/excl.png

That's the one that's in my convertible. It actually ran well after the damage. When it happened the car felt weird, but it still boosted well. Then I noticed the oil pressure getting really low and pulled over. Luckily I caught it in time. I didn't re-tune my car after I installed the FD upper intake manifold, and I didn't reprogram my boost controller. I was hitting 17 PSI in 1st and 2nd gear. So who knows what I was doing in 3rd and 4th. :o Unfortunately I forget to check my maximum boost before I shut off my car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png I tuned my car alot after I fixed the motor. So it's doing ok now. 14 PSI is feeling ok.

Yea...17 in 1st & 2nd means like 24+ in 3rd or 4th, lol...BOOM. That sucks..

so you already have put a new motor in the convertible? When did all this happen?

It happened in March on a Sunday night. I confirmed the crack the following day and I had the motor out the next day. After I got the new housing from my friend I went to T&R Racing in Queens, NY a few weeks later to check out the damage and put it back together. They ported the new housing to match my old one, and I did all of the cleanup, etc. Then we re-assembled the motor. I put it in, and it has been running very well for close to 2 months.

So what exactly do you have in that convertible, can you give me a run down of your setup...

also, do you know any HP number or QTs?

Mild street port with 3 mm Hurley seals:Greddy FMIC with custom piping; FD upper intake manifold port matched to FC lower, TB, and Greddy elbow; custom Greddy T-78 turbo setup; Wolf 3D, MSD 6A on leading, 4 1600 cc injectors; RB turbo back exhaust with custom 3" downpipe; and some other stuff.

I don't know the HP, but at 17 PSI I'm sure it was over 400 RWHP. There was a review of my car by Rob x-7 a few months ago. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rotaryman88 05-29-2002 09:34 PM

I missed the review I guess, lol...thats a hell of a setup. I plan on following pretty close...I've decided on the T78 from GReddy instead of the T76. I'll also use Haltech...don't have any experience w/ any others, lol. I'm gonna shoot for about 500RWHP though....I'm doing a BIG streetport...and 3mm seals w/ FD internals most likely...hardened stationary gears, etc...I've been reading into getting the motor dowled bigger or stronger, or something like that...any advice on that? Ya know, to keep the motor from stressin...
