Rebuilt them for a friend who is doing a 5 lug swap on his 86 sport. Also did a little polishing with a wire brush on a drill press! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Here we see one side of the caliper with the pistons still in and the other with the pistons out and the seal recess cleaned out with a wire brush. I should also note the guy this 5 lug swap was purchased from thought the RX-7 made a great winter car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

And sadly my friend who was taking pics failed to get any after it was all done. They looked brand new! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

damn i just got four calipers from a junk yard car and they were in better condition then the stock ones look so i think i'm gonna do that exact same thing... is there any chemicals you used? because i will do that myself

Geoffman72 06-07-2003 06:43 PM

if there are deposits built up on them you can give them a sulfuric acid bath for no more than 5 minutes.

MazdaEnthused 06-07-2003 08:38 PM

take the pistons out of them and just soak'em in sulfuric acid? and where am i supose to get sulfuric acid and then take a wire brush to them?

Nice job.

J9 - no, the ******* bastards never send those!

Mazdaenthused - Yeah, just do not take the wire brush farther down that the seal recess on the caliper,

and dont brush the smooth uncorroded area of the pistons as any small crevaces can possibly let brake fluid seep through.

As for finding sulfuric acid, its basically the main ingredient in industrial strength liquid plumber!

hhmmm...I prolly shoulda done that when I did my swap...
