Youre not worried about something hitting that oil cooler and putting a hole in it?

dac 02-11-2002 06:06 PM

I'm in Portland (or real close). The A/F Gauge I got is from Summit. It's not from AutoMeter. I think I have a quality o2 sensor (3 wire) so I hope it will work well. I've added gauges where the cig tray was and added idiot lights for low coolant, oil.

The Oil Cooler isn't protected, but should be okay. On the RX-7 about the only thing is was protected from was a 2x4. As I recall the grill work covering it wasn't much protection. The Oil Cooler mounts are welded to the frame on the front crossmember, so it's not going anywhere...

It's not going to be a daily driver, but a summer rig- 1/4 mile toy. Thus the 5.12 rear end with a locker (lock-rite).

This Friday! I left my laptop at work this weekend. But I did want to recheck all my wires before I start it. I did crank it over a few times this weekend. So it's close.

I just need to connect my factory tach up, which I will do after I start it. Everything else, including the backup lights, speedo are all hooked up. I filled the coolant and found I had a bad cap. I've taken care of that and it looks good now.

I hope setting up the Haltech is smooth. I've got a map from RX7.com. I added a mixture trim knob and have a A/F Meter in the dash so I think I should be able to fine tune it.

This has been a 18 month project (from the time I pulled the motor out of the Doner car). But many other things have gone on in my life that have slowed the project (moving and not having a garage being one of them).

Give us the results.

5.12 :wow:

dac 02-11-2002 10:00 PM

5.12 works out to 3018 RPM @ 60 MPH

With a top speed of 139 MPH @ 7000 RPM

which is faster then I'd care to drive in this thing... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

:wow: damn. where did u get that from? i want one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/devil.gif bet that would shave some time off the 1/4. does anyone know how much that would do? the 5.12. So u have a custom drivetrain? could i get a drop in 5.12 for my 7?! i wouldn't need to go any faster than 139 anyway. lol unless ofcourse my 1/4 got so fast i would redline before the 1/4 was up.. jk lmfao

Yeah, it doesn't look like the most aerodynamic thing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

dac 02-12-2002 03:02 PM

Ya there no way I will get this AeroTurd to go that fast, but it is light (less than 2200 lbs) so it should easily grab a 12 sec 1/4.

At least it looks that way on paper. Slap on some slicks and I might be able to get into the high 11's.

The running gear is all Mazda, Except the rear end is the Sidekick rear, I have been told the rear will handle the power, It looks pretty strong, but I haven't looked at the splines or gears.

I went through my wiring last night and everything looks in order. So this weekend it should be running. :p

I have heard of Sidekicks with V8s, but your truck is better.

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:15 PM

Though id put something in a little different than a 2nd gen. Its my Rx3 Coupe on the attached file.

1Revvin7 02-12-2002 05:21 PM

finally got my pic up! here is my love.... lol

1Revvin7 02-12-2002 05:23 PM

and the back.....

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:35 PM

there is not much of the old rotor stuff on here

Rob x-7 02-12-2002 05:42 PM

That RX-3 looks real sweet, how long you had it?

Rotaryman88 02-12-2002 05:43 PM

No school like 'ol school. I like the Rx3...I just wouldn't know how to restore one, lol. You've got a nice set of rotaries there...and welcome to the board. I know we don't have many 'ol school rotary guys in here...not to many of them around anymore. Give it time...I'm sure they'll be some.

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:44 PM

I Have had the Rx3 for 3 years now.

Its has a 13B JPort Fuel Injected

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:48 PM

actually i have had it 4 four years, time goes fast.

Once you start restoring it, its just one thing after another.

Dont think i could part with the car now.

I havent tuned the car on teh Dyno yet since i put the 55mm Haltech fuel injection on, i expect about 140kw @ the RW

Rob x-7 02-12-2002 05:51 PM

AHHH, love the reflection off that RX-3 as well.

Iwant7 02-12-2002 05:53 PM

1revvin7 you need something to fill up the wheel wells of that rex!

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:53 PM

I just spent big dollars at the auto trimmer, re-doing the roof lining and door trims. They look really cool.

Iwant7 02-12-2002 05:55 PM

These would help!

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 05:57 PM

Think those wheels are a bit modern for the car. Im saving up for some chrome 17" Simmons OM's. Not sure if you have simmons wheels over there. They are wild wheels.

1Revvin7 02-12-2002 06:07 PM

I have consider those before i was really into tuning my car and now i want these, but they only have 7.5 width wtf???

Rob x-7 02-12-2002 06:08 PM

AHHHH 7.5 is fine.

Spinz_Tech 02-12-2002 06:11 PM

on a 2nd gen i reckon 7.5 by 17" or 18" is ideal

1Revvin7 02-12-2002 06:14 PM

lol, i want 265s in the back! man Spinz ur car is really NICE i like those rx3's do u have any under the hood pics? what have u done to it?

If you roll the fenders and use the right offset you could get 295's. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Rob x-7 02-12-2002 07:00 PM

**** it, im going for 335/35, think Ill attach those nice plastic wheel well flares, some guy is parting out a old Bronco II, I can get the wheel well flares cheap.

335's would fit with a small flare, but you may want to see if someobody can do it with metal.

I actually stole that idead from u. ahahaha ya that would be nice but i don't think so... lol I would need some wide as rims for those huh? what is the widest tire i could run on a 7.5 widthe rim w/o the sidewall being spongy or unsafe?

Spinz im waiting for the pix :sigh: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

235's or 245's would be ok on a 7.5" rim. 295's would be ok on a 9" rim.

1Revvin7 02-12-2002 08:46 PM

so what would be ideal for 265s'. what will fit without having to roll the fenders? to the max ofcourse, ideally 17's with same stock diameter of tire/rim ratio? and what rim width? 7.5?

13BAce 02-12-2002 09:01 PM

A 17x9 with an offset of +32 should do the trick.

Those directional Enkeis look just like 5th gen Prelude wheels.

I was kidding about the flares... lol
