Default Peripheral Port Valve stem issue

I just finished rebuilding a 2nd gen 13b and everything seemed fine until I heard this loud rapping sound when I stomped on the gas pedal. I thought maybe I did something wrong, but if I revved it up slowly or held it at some constant RPM it sounded and ran fine. I started looking around and I noticed the peripheral port actuator was not moving at all and the valve stem was bouncing in and out of the slide. This is where my noise was coming from, so I started to take it apart and the stem slid right out of the intake without having to remove anything other than the actuator. I know this is not correct, but the shop manual doesn't have anything about how it is assembled or what parts should be there. Without tearing a good one apart to see how it is actually supposed to be put together does anyone have a picture, drawing or anything that would help me figure out how to put it back together? What parts are missing? The shop manual just says to make sure it moves smoothly! There appears like a ring near the end where some sort of clip might slide into to hold it in place? I have another intake I am going to swap out, but I would like to repair this one for future use.
