rebalance? I thought this was a top end high $$$ motor already. How much more money are you going to spend on it? It works and fires up right?

 

at this rate the car will never run if you keep on tinkering with it. Just finish it and race

 

Don't sweat it, there really is nothing better that having a car you spent the time to build and building it just the way you like it. Truth be told, i'm sure when it is all said and done, it will be a sweet ride.

Do you want to run the risk of having your flywheel shatter because the rotating assembly isn't balanced properly? That flywheel is pretty damn close to your legs, I'd do everything possible to make sure that the rotating assembly is properly balanced. Good work Banzai.

Some how I doubt that would happen. Plus if you rev it that high you should think scatter sheild or balistics blanket.

 

I think a clarification is needed.



I am rebalancing because:

A. My personel piece of mind

B. I want to SEE how well it was balanced

c. My Clutch/Flywheel is a conglamoration of parts from various sources

d. Clutches and flywheels DO SHATTER, look at ITO's Brother in Law !!!



I do plan a scatter shield type installation. I am lining the tunnel with 3/8" plate. I am not a fan of wrap around ballastic blankets due to the oil soak issue.

 

I have watched a flywheel shatter at the track and it is ******* scary. With how high he is going to be reving it you want to take all preliminary cautions to ensure that everything will operate as supposed to. Also from what I understand this motor was ORIGINALLY built for a guy cheaply, so who knows whether it was balanced properly. A scatter shield is also a good idea, and as Banzai stated isn't being overlooked.

Likewise - one thing I will always get done professionally is flywheel lightening. Better still with the bike engine - do away with it altogether
