I would suggest talking to a few shops, what color is the car going to be? Still white? Usually with some good cleaning a re-paint under the hood isnt neccessary as the grime protects the metal and paint underneath, unless you are doing a color change of course. You would rent a compressor and spray gun? Im sure if you are starting to work on your car you may already have one, and you can buy some cheap spray guns ( keyword cheap: you get what you pay for ), then after buying some masking tape, paper, masking plastic, a respirator, self etching metal primer for any bare spots of metal you may encounter, paint, clear ( if your keeping white- I would suggest some single stage so you dont even have to clear it ), then hoping you mixed everything right, havent stunk your house out to high hell, and dont run the be-jesus out of the paint it might not come out that bad. Of course you have to prep the engine bay as well, paints worse enemy is grease of course, not only wont it stick, it will fish eye,not dry at all, crinkle, and do all sorts of disgusting things when impurities are present. A good pressure washing with a degreaser ,I only know some wholesale ones that are very good to use, and biodegradable so you wont kill your grass and hurt the paint your not repainting, or the moldings by the windshield, or the glass itself, and some scuff pads to prep the surface . A good paint job is all prep work, you can make chicken soup out of chicken **** know what im saying? I would just suggest a shop do it after you talk to them and tell them you will prep it as best as you can.

I forgot to add that a shop can just use whatever amount of paint/primer and other materials they need, if you buy paint and activators, you have to buy set amounts, as well as full rolls of paper, tape, etc. What a person off the street pays for a gallon of white, we pay 5% over cost, sometimes it doesnt pay to do things yourself, but you can absorb alot of cost with prepping it as best you can yourself.

Oh my god, I can imagine what MACCO would do under the hood. You would drip some antifreeze 3 years later, and the paint will run off with it, lol

no problem, might I suggest DuPont Imron with some DuPont VariPrime primer. Its what we use on airplanes, trains, trucks, boats, you get the idea, oh and my own car, lol. Like I said, I would check some shops, and they may tell you how THEY want the car prepped, if you were closer, I could recommend someone

You could always bring it to them with everything under the hood. Some people pay alot of money to get fancy colored hoses, etc.
