I took a shot at painting my own wheels. I purchased a paint gun for my compressor at Harbor Freight for $20 and went to NAPA and purchased $14 worth of automotive black paint, reducer, and hardner.
It took me about 3 hours to properly clean the wheels. They had a good 14 years worth of crud on them. Laid a bunch of plastic down in the back yard, mixed up the paint and got to spraying. Was pretty straight forward. Thanks to RobX-7 guiding me through. Put 3 coats on, turned out pretty well for my first time paitning this way. Now I just need to paint the rest of the car... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |

Looks nice..
|
You gonna paint the car with that too? They came out nice.
|
Good Job, those at first I didn't like those rims in black but they grew on me.
|
Looks good. I'm thinking of painting the wheels on the sport black too.
|
Do they have to be buffed smooth first to look decent? My 5-lug GXL rims seem to have a sort of texture on them.
For $34, that's awesome! |
No, these wheels have a texture on them as well. They just have to be cleaned very thoroughly. I think the texture helps the paint to adhere.

why did you paint your wheels when your car is pink??
black t2 rims look like ass |

I hate that black rim look, but you did manage to do a good job of painting them. Lets see how long it lasts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i think you did a great job painting them, they came ou great, but like some other guys i dont think those turbo rims are good candidates for being black...i dont like those stock rims in general.

That's what happens to blaze red when it sits out in the Texas sun for 14 years. It will go perfect with my Hello Kitty exhaust tip. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

The bumper isn't really attached. It's just kinda hanging out. I have a little more work to finish the FMIC install. I just stick it back on to keep it out of the way. I modified it today anyway, I post pics later. You'll love this feat of ghetto engineering....
As you may or may not be able to tell, I'm not overly concerned about looks at this point. This is mainly going to be a track/autox/drift car. I painted the wheels black mostly to hide them and the brake dust. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |

Nice...kind of cranberry.

glad it turned out ok for you. If you followed the steps adhesion
should not be a problem. Not sure of the quality of paint used, but for $14 you did good! I am however shocked at the negativity in this thread, regardless that I gave him the instructions on how to do it so dont think im being partial due to that, he had the balls to take on this project ( among his others) and can at least stand back and say he did it himself! Maybe he should strip the paint off or paint them silver to satisfy others, some of whom have no running cars, lol. |
brian....i like them....although you are still a raging homosexual
paint ur car beige |
Good job. I think the car in black would look great with those.
