I took a shot at painting my own wheels. I purchased a paint gun for my compressor at Harbor Freight for $20 and went to NAPA and purchased $14 worth of automotive black paint, reducer, and hardner.

It took me about 3 hours to properly clean the wheels. They had a good 14 years worth of crud on them. Laid a bunch of plastic down in the back yard, mixed up the paint and got to spraying. Was pretty straight forward. Thanks to RobX-7 guiding me through. Put 3 coats on, turned out pretty well for my first time paitning this way.

Now I just need to paint the rest of the car... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Looks nice..

i.didnt.do.it 10-24-2003 11:48 AM

You gonna paint the car with that too? They came out nice.

j200pruf 10-24-2003 12:49 PM

Good Job, those at first I didn't like those rims in black but they grew on me.

UniqueTII 10-24-2003 01:16 PM

Looks good. I'm thinking of painting the wheels on the sport black too.

Baldy 10-24-2003 01:18 PM

Do they have to be buffed smooth first to look decent? My 5-lug GXL rims seem to have a sort of texture on them.

For $34, that's awesome!

Nemesis 10-24-2003 01:25 PM

No, these wheels have a texture on them as well. They just have to be cleaned very thoroughly. I think the texture helps the paint to adhere.

BigTurbo74 10-24-2003 01:38 PM

why did you paint your wheels when your car is pink??

black t2 rims look like ass

1Revvin7 10-24-2003 02:08 PM

I hate that black rim look, but you did manage to do a good job of painting them. Lets see how long it lasts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

teknics 10-24-2003 02:18 PM

i think you did a great job painting them, they came ou great, but like some other guys i dont think those turbo rims are good candidates for being black...i dont like those stock rims in general.

That's what happens to blaze red when it sits out in the Texas sun for 14 years. It will go perfect with my Hello Kitty exhaust tip. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

nemesis- hey if you like it then it's all good right? at least they shiny, i noticed you have some beat up tails,,,, you want some newer looking ones??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

oh yea what up with your signals in the front? are they taken out orrR?

Nemesis 10-24-2003 03:15 PM

The bumper isn't really attached. It's just kinda hanging out. I have a little more work to finish the FMIC install. I just stick it back on to keep it out of the way. I modified it today anyway, I post pics later. You'll love this feat of ghetto engineering....

As you may or may not be able to tell, I'm not overly concerned about looks at this point. This is mainly going to be a track/autox/drift car. I painted the wheels black mostly to hide them and the brake dust. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

i'd rather have fade than rust.

Nemesis 10-24-2003 04:02 PM

Nice...kind of cranberry.

Rob x-7 10-24-2003 07:24 PM

glad it turned out ok for you. If you followed the steps adhesion

should not be a problem. Not sure of the quality of paint used, but

for $14 you did good!

I am however shocked at the negativity in this thread, regardless that

I gave him the instructions on how to do it so dont think im being partial

due to that, he had the balls to take on this project ( among his others)

and can at least stand back and say he did it himself!

Maybe he should strip the paint off or paint them silver to satisfy

others, some of whom have no running cars, lol.

FrestyleFC3S 10-24-2003 07:32 PM

brian....i like them....although you are still a raging homosexual

paint ur car beige

FCmaniac 10-24-2003 11:40 PM

Good job. I think the car in black would look great with those.

amen to that! if a guys happy with his car, and with his work, congratulate him. good job dude. i don't even really talk about my car here because people here think 200hp out of an n/a is unattainable. that's absurd. buy the way, my red paint is worse than yours, gotta love it!

RX7Aggie 10-27-2003 09:15 AM

matt (baller520) has a black FC TII with black painted rims, and it looks sexy.

i'll have to look up his website later, then i'll post his pics for him
