paint with only reducer or was there activator?

That's probably what I would have paid if I got someone else to sandblast paint and scrub the grease and oil off the chassis (which was all over the place from the leaky oil pan and front cover shown in my gallery as well).

Dan said he did use reducer and activator.. I don't know the cost though.. It was his paint resources from work he used.. The prices I listed for reducer and the paint itself is just from what I saw filing invoices for other painted trailers at work.

I can answer any questions on the paint. I use it all the time.



It requires a hardener, but doesnt always require a reducer. The two brands I use (Imron and Jetglo) dont need to be thinned. Just mix and paint. That paint goes on very well. Its much stickier than auto paint, and can be layed on thicker. The surface dries to the touch within a few hours, but the paint under the surface layer takes 3-4 days to dry. In that time, its still flowing, so when done right, that paint will me smooth as glass.



Not only does it make a super smooth surface thats tough as nails, it also never needs to be waxed. Just wash it wne its dirty.



Price? Imron is $250/gal and its not available to the general public. Jetglo is even harder to get, and more expensive, but I dont have an exact price on it.

I was curious though, how do you keep it shiny like this? I find on our freshly painted trailers, if you touch the paint with your finger, it leaves a glossy smear mark. I want to avoid that, but I'm not sure if the circumstance will be different because I'm allowing proper drying time as where trailers have a day or two tops before they are back out being loaded for duty. How can I keep this lusterous shine without getting smear marks from touching the paint?

Dont touch the paint at all for 3-4 days if the temp is above 70 degrees F, or about a week if its below that. High humidity will also extend the drying time.

I want to go silver in the engine bay on mine. How could I do that? What paint would hold up, that can hold up to the abuse of being in an engine bay?

Urethane or polyurethane auto paint will hold up fine. Its whats on the car from the factory, and what is used when your car is painted by a shop. The aircraft grade polyurethane Colin used isnt exactly something you run to the corner paint store and pick up. Most of it isnt available to the general public, so you need to be in the business to get it.



If you do use aircraft grade stuff, be sure to follow the proper precautions. That stuff is really bad for your health. Much worse than auto paint. If you think Im kidding, do a search for Imron on google.
