I need to get my car painted. I was curious what the average cost would be for the same color (tornado silver) and to change to a different color. I know it varies a lot depending on the shop but was looking for some rough estimates from you guys from a decent shop, not Maaco or a chain. I wanted to get a different color but to paint the door sills and engine bay I'm sure would cost a lot more.

Also, do all T2's have aluminum hoods? I want to get an N/A alum hood but they are scarce around here.

Thanks!

Full paint jobs can run anywhere from $1500 and up, I would not look for the cheapest. Ask to see some of the shops work first, maybe there will be a car there getting painted you can see before and after. Being silver, you HAVE to get basecoat/clearcoat versus single stage solid colors. You will pay out the ass for a color change, especially if you arent going to take the car apart, or take the engine out yourself. Between myself and my friends shops, our paint jobs are in the $2000-$4000 range ( and can still go up from there ), depending on who takes the car apart, with very little bodywork needed, will the car get wet sanded and polished after, how much the guy is looking to spend depends on what kind of paint they use, what kind of primers, the variables are endless. Shop around, look at the shops work is all I can say.

wow, that's a lot for custom...I'll definitely stick with the stock color, its starting to grow on me anyway. Thanks for the advice.

Oh yeah, all TII hoods are aluminum, unless its a aftermarket one, they do sell aftermarket TII hoods, they are steel.

Do a lot of the work yourself and you will save. IE: Pull the interior pieces out and then spraying the door sills will be no big deal.

I did a color change on a truck and it turned out very nice.

we did a color change on seths car (www.2751engineering.com) its a huge pain in the butt, unless you pick a color thats close you will see the original color everwhere. if you just do a repaint plan to spend about 1500-4000 for a decent one.

always ask how many layers of paint and if theres a clear coat. 5 layers of paint w/ 2 layers of clear coats good = 6-10 year paint job. some guy down the street was gonna do that to my car for $900 but ive never had the cash.

If you are going to have someone elese paint your car.

1. Take a crayon and circle all dents, dings and rust spots you expect to be repaired.

2. Number all spots

3. Take pictures of each one.

4. Provide copy to bodyshop and ask that they be referenced on the estimate.

5. When car is finished, check each photo to ensure that the ding is fixed. Look/Inspect car under : sunlight. incadescent light and flourescent light. Do not ccept work until you have had time to wash car by hand thoroughly! You will be amazed at the number of flaws you can find. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

You guys have been a tremendous help. Thanks to all.

If I'm getting ready to drop $2k+, I need to make sure it's good and lasts a long time.
