Options On A 86 At
#1
Please Help me!! I picked up a 86 NA At with the common blown motor seals( ie coolant in the rear rotor/ over heating) The trans also needs to be rebuild... but other that that.... the car is in good condition. Now I was wondering on what way I should go with this car... I live in LA so I have a good selection of shops. I have the option of a built 4 port with a carb for a low price. But that means guting the car and finding away around a smog.. also does anyone know if the AT will work without the cpu. I cant find a 86 nonturbo drop in so I am getting frustrated also I havent been able to find a shop in the LA area that is a rx7 specialist Please help any advice is welcome!!! Also how do I id a lsd rear end? does it bolt in? how much of a pain to switch to a 5 speed? anyone in LA got parts for sale? Thanks

yes but what would that require....5 spd..driveshaft...hood/or inercooler....cpu....rearend.... is that correct.... any idea on price?
We picked up a 88 TurboII that just has some bad rust that we're probably going to swap the motor/trans/driveshaft etc into a clean NA chassis once we find one. If I remember correctly we bought the TurboII for 1600 or so? Even drove it home from MI to IL, went like hell for something with >100k miles.

well more to my gutting the car deal I can pick up a 4 port street port 13b with gsl-se rotors/housing now could I swap my efi to that "bottom end"... I know that is a bad term but i cant think of a better one...also will the AT bolt up to the older motor.....or... what I really want to do.... get a holly 4 bbl manifold and put a NOS plate under it... so then I get to loose some serious wieght and get a power increase.

the trans should bolt right up, you will have to make sure to use the right counterweight for the AT with those rotors... but the bolt pattern should be fine.
