hey I just got the engine out of my 88 GXL. When I tear it apart what should I watch out for? Are there any special things that I should do? And how do you keep track of all the parts?

watch out for a small japenese guy with a knife to jump out of the engine, special things to do- jump up and down on one leg while chewing on some beef jerky, keep track of the parts by placing them in filing cabinets. Just kidding, hope you find some humor in this, im sure some of the veterain engine guys will help you out with this one.

you need to do something so you can put all the little seals back in the same groove they cam out of. there are numbers on the rotor so you can do this. we like to draw a rotor on a piece of paper and put each seal in the right place. put the paper on some fast food trays.

Thanks for the hits on laying things out.

I just found out that it is a six port. Is that a good thing or a not so good thing? What can I do with it to get better power?

try to bait the japanese guy with small bits of raw fish....

all of the 84-91 non-turbo motors are 6 port.

pros: they have a flat torque curve

cons: its impossible to port much, 170rwhp is a lot for one of these
