oil resrictor for turbo feed?
#1
im having a smoking issue with my new turbo and i read somewhere it could be related to the -4an line i ran.
the oil drain has already been custom made and is directly pointing down. has anyone ran into this, and what could be used for the resrictor.

Is your turbo BB? If so, then you should be using a restrictor. The BB type turbos don't require as much oil flow as standard ones. We had this issue on the Falken FD when we went from the KKK bushing turbo to the Garrett GT35R. Garrett says to run the restrictor for all their GT series turbo's.

atpturbo.com sells the restrictors.
you should buy a couple, and work from the biggest size down, once it stops smoking itll be fine. you dont want to over-restrict it, thats why thats the safest way to do it, unless you know the exact size you need.

The best thing to do is to call Turbonetics and ask them what they recommend.
Funny thing about that, I had called Turbonectics numerous times and asked them about what size restrictor to use with my BB t66.
Each time, there was a different answer...Either it was
"don't use one" or
"you will just have to test it" or
"We have no idea" or
"See what other RE guys are doing"

yea see the only way to do it is with a gradual decrease in size.
sucks but hey gotta do what ya gotta do.
unfortunately theres no way to know if its too small unless it overheats (if its oil cooled) and well then its garbage.
