First, I am talking about a 1987 GXL....

Do you have to take off the intake manifolds to get enough room to remove the O2 sensor? And if not, what kind of tool can fit down in there to remove the SOB? It is an awfully tight area.

Is it easier to get at it from underneath?

Any suggestions, please....

they have 02 sensor sockets that are great for this, you should be able to get it from the top

I use whats called a "crow's foot". It looks like an open end with the handle cut off and it has a place for an extention to fit in on the open face of the head.

I just used an open end wrench today to take mine off. I have my motor out of the car though, so that doesn't really help you.
