ok about a week ago i pressure washed the engine on my rex, when i went to drive it home from work it wouldnt start so i had it towed home. as soon as it was taken off the flat bed it started. it ran all kinds of f'ed up with a big white plume of smoke and sounded like it was running on only one rotor. now it doesnt start at all, here are the things i have done/ checked
checked CAS both the G and Ne terminals im getting 154 ohms. checked the resistance on the leading coil and came up with 15.54 ohms checked that i am getting 12v to the coil with the ignition on de-floded a coulpe times, changed plugs. i also checked to see that im getting a strong spark i tried to roll start it but that didnt do anything when i crank the engine when its not floded it sounds like its gonna start on the first revolution but on the second, it just seems to be flooded out. when i pull the plugs after it wont start where dripping wet with fuel. it seems to me that when i crank the engine it pretty much just floods it out immediatly, i cant figure out why though. any help or a point in the right direction would be great i have some expeariance with cars but none with rotarys rotary newbie https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif |
Make sure your AFM plug is dry. I drove through a thunderstorm with no hood once, then I couldn't get over 20 mph, and the thing was dumping gas like crazy (plumes of smoke, strong gas smell). I was drying the car with a hair dryer, and got to the AFM plug. Got the water out, started it, ran fine after that.

defiantly will try. i forgot to mention i went over all the wiring to look for shorts or chaffed wires, found only a broken sensor on the back of the thermostat housing (under the alternator) still not sure what it is( see picture). i also sprayed every wiring harness under the hood with WD 40

That's a water temp sensor, though I'm not sure if that's for the gauge or the ECU.

ok thank you. i wasn't sure if it was a water temp or pressure sensor

YAY !!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif i got the car started but discovered more problems, nothing major though for a 20 year old car, it seems my exhaust is DONE!! lol i was getting thick white smoke from my pre cat & cat. my question could these being clogged cause my non start situation?
im pretty sure it could but i want to be positive. ok so i need and exhaust, previous owner did a cat back so i need pre cat, cat and gasket. im not worried about emissions. any suggestions?? |
just wanted to mention that i need the best bang for my buck. im not looking for "the best exhaust on the market" just something to flow a little better but not kill my ears
|
if you dont have to worry about emissions you might as well buy cat replacement pipes or the appropriate header/pipe combo but if you dont want noise dont get headers , you can just get the replacment pipes on ebay cheap for around 65 shipped for both although if you got the xtra $ to spend going with the RacingBeat set is better cuz it comes with a presilencer instead of a straight pipe.
|
ok. i cant afford to get the exhaust right now. my question is can i go to pep boys or similar parts store and make a temporary exhaust using an off the shelf universal cat? or should i just put a universal straight pipe in. and what size do i need to get
|
i went to my friends work today and had him make me a simple straight pipe to get rid of the second cat and main cats that were clogged, my rex fired right up ( damn shes loud without all that restriction). after i got home and the car sat for a while she wont start again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif ive done everything that was suggested. i might just replace the injectors and go from there.
i love this car and all her problems but i do want to drive her, after all thats what she's made for |
