I bought a RHD 88 FC turbo'd from my friend recently. He claimed it ran fine, just needed a new clutch, I went to pick up the car, and the brake was siezed so I had to get it towed home, next day I get home from work, go to my driveway car fires up fine, I put it in reverse and floor it and the brakes broke free and the car moved.

I drove the car around the block a couple times (the clutch was super brutal) and then parked it in the driveway and got my friend to order a new clutch, a couple hours later I went to start it, and it wouldn't start, it was cranking just wouldn't fire up.

The next day I got home from work, got in the car it started fine. I drove it 2 blocks to the gas station I work at and washed it in the carwash, then when I tried to leave, the car would not start. I had to get the car towed home after that, and since then (a week later) the car still cranks but will not start. I have read about the flooding problem and I did the egi fuse unflood procedure.

This is my first car and I don't know anything about them (although I have been reading TONS of literature and WIKI about them recently). I would like to know what are the first things I should check in my car and what tools I will need.

also I will add that when the car did start and run, it would not idle, I would have to constantly keep my foot on the gas to keep it from turning off. Except the one time when I drove around the block, and then parked, it idled fine, then I turned it off and it wouldnt start again :P.

Was the car a factory Turbo car, or was it a turboed n/a? How close to stock is it?

Problem solved, EGI fuse was disconnected.. (theres egi fuse switch that a previous owner had installed) it was hard to see but I looked close and seen that the wires wernt right so I fixed them and the car fired right up. Now hopefully my clutch gets in this week so I can actually get the car past 2000 rpm

you might also want to fix that brake problem too. If the calliper is seized up just buy some cheap re-built ones from advance auto parts. Glad to hear that you fixed the problem.

*status update* so my clutch still hasn't come in (my buddys shop still has it on special order)

Ive driven the car about 5 times; now that I got the starting problem figured I have some questions.

I start the car and the idle sucks, I have to flutter my gas pedal to keep the car from stalling for about five minutes until the car will idle by itself.

When I put the car into gear, and start to drive, the wheels don't turn at all until around 4500 and 5000 rpm even then they are hardley moving, I have to redline to get the car actually moving. When I first drove the car and I just assumed that my break was still siezed.

My mecanical friend is convinced that the reason for having to go to high rpm is my clutch, I would really appreciate anybodys second opinion on it.

Also another question, is it bad to redline a rotary engine? I have read on lots of places that redlineing a rotary is actually good for it occasionally. Thanks for the help!

Your mechanical friend is correct, that is your clutch slipping.

Experienced people say occasionally redlining the car keeps carbon deposits from building up. Plus it's fun as hell. Just to go to far into the red zone, and don't stay there. That's not good.

I don't think so. The FC door handles are known for breaking, and I've never heard of anyone installing and FB handle in its place.

The only repairs I've seen are replacing it with a new one, or welding back together whatever's broken.

I finally got my clutch, my Dad and I put it in a couple days back. I've driven the car several times now, and EVERY time I turn the car off, either from me stalling it ;p or just turning it off proper, the car will not turn on again (unless its been sitting for a few hours.)

I thought this was because it was flooding, so I did egi fuse trick and did unflooding procedure, and only twice out of about 10 times did this work.

Today when I tried turning the car on after washing it, I pulled egi fuse and tried unflooding for 15 minutes, with no luck.

Every time I have run into this problem, I have been lucky enough to have a friend nearby to push/roll/bump start it, and 100% of the time push starting it works.

Maybe it is just flooding, I don't understand cars enough to know lol.

Anyways any suggestions and help would be nice, thanks a ton! - Feve.
