No Keys

Yup.....Don't keep it. Its bad Ju-Ju to keep that car. Cops are gonna bang on your door to take it back. I am sure their are policies when comes to cars like this. You might just have to wait 90 days or something like that. I would consult with the DMV though.

door doesnt contain all the info needed to make a key that
will work all locks. I just went thru this with the car I sold,
I lost the key, I used the trunk lock to get keys made.
The locksmith had it in the computer that the door lock
didnt contain all the info, something like 9 pins, but the
trunk lock did. Besides its easier to remove the trunk lock.

a little off the subject here...but does anyone know if the Mazda dealer carries the original Mazda debossed black plastic key that was issued with the car? I could have swore someone posted a while back that they do...but my local dealer didn't carry any.

There is a way the tow yard can aquire the car from it's rightful owner, and it's legal. Because the yard charges a set amount for towing and storage of the car it all adds up. If the owner will not, or cannot pay the fees the tow yard can put whatis known as a "lien" on the vehicle for the ammount owed. If this lien is greater then the car is worth, or the owner will not claim their vehicle/ will not pick it up. The Tow yard can take legal, and rightful posession of the vehicle at that time. Much like repair shops can take someone's car if they don't pay for repairs made to that car. The dad is the owner of the tow company, I am sure he kows the LEGAL way of aquiring this car.
Like it is said, you can take the trunk lock to a locksmith and they can create a key for the car. The trunk lock is EASY to remove, takes about 10min if you don't know what you are doing.
I honestly would go the route I did when it comes to this. I didn't know how many people had keys to my car because mine was a repo in the area. Owners of these cars tend to be VERY bitter if they see "their" car rolling around the streets. I bought a set of locks off ebay for $29, included keys, ignition, and tumblers for the doors, trunk, and ignition. Took me about 3 hrs to complete the swap, and now I know that I have the only keys to my car in the area.
You can do the same thing at your local junk yard, and if you need some, let me know, I can pull a set for you, and ship them off. Then only he and MAYBE someone in the Seattle area has keys to his car.

you can get a title for the car you just have to send for it. takes about 2 months or so and then when you get it then you can register it but if you just need to start the car buy a new ignition and door locks and then worry about the title later
