I bought a Haynes repair manual for my 86 rx-7 and to test the spark plug wires it says to hook up a inductive timing light to it and crank the engine. If the timing light lights up, the plug wires are good. I looked at auto zone to find one and i found a gun looking thing. Is that gun looking thing what i need?? Thanks

The haynes manual should say something about how to test it with a multimeter, I think you can test to see how many ohms, if i remeber correctly

That timing light should be fine, however hooking a timing light up to a spark plug wire doesn't test it very well, it could be jacked and still conduct some electricity, you need to get an ohm meter and test the resistance accross the wire, also visually inspect the wire.
