im picking up an 1986 rx-7. it is a 5 speed, non turbo. wat model is it exactly i get confused. i got a few questions about it...

-the guy said after an hour or so of driving it when he comes to a stop, the RPMs get really low then go back up. what causes this? vaccum line leak/crack?

-what do i need to know about the car to make sure it starts up all the time, and runs good. ive read a lil bit but fill me in. what sort of maintence do i need to do regularly? etc etc

-tell me everything a new rx-7 owner should know: first mods to get, mods to stay away from, what problems to expect. what parts i shuld get to prevent problems.

the car has a new battery,starter,clutch,02 sensor, belts. it also has dual bomz exhuast, fog lights, Mazda Racing short throw quick shifter, and K&N air filter.

-is the exhuast a catback or do they make different kinds?

sorry for all the questions, ive looked and searched through the forums to acquire as much information as i culd, but i wuld like my questions answered directly.

Welcome to nopistons, I would guess assuming the low rpms is "surging" you need to adjust the TPS, there are a lot of valuable FAQ's in this forum to look through including one on TPS adjustment.

Sounds like you got some fun go fast goodies! Don't forget to add your car to the garage with some pics when you get it!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

there is a link to the one i got. he ended the auction for 2G. looks to be in good condition. how does it look to all of u?good deal?

ive read through most of the FAQ, and ive already learned alot. i am very mechanically inclined, but dont know very much about rotaries

after reading up on stuff, looks like i wanna replace plugs, vacuum lines, fuel and coolant lines/hoses,check grounds. get injectors cleaned, and it looks like my next mod is gonna be an ignition, intake.

Why does it have the turbo 2 gauges in it?

the thing has 160k. not worth 2k, unless the engine has been overhauled. neways to answer some of ur questions: looks like a regular Special Edition to me, no P/S. TPS or AFM could be causing the RPM fluctuation. Its not some special car, it reqs the same maintenance as other cars. Mods: go with an intake, TB mod, port ur manifolds, remove the exhaust diffusers, etc. Its been a long time since I owned a N/A

It doesn't, it's an S4, and, I believe, all the S4's had the same gauge clusters, with the addition of a boost gauge on the driver's side door for the TII.

It is an s4 and it has t2 gauges. In the turbo model they replaced the volt gauge with the boost gauge which is in the lower left hand corner of the pic.

My guess, the model is it is a GXL model, those are the only ones that have the rear seats stock i think.
