Okay so I have someone who is going to sell me a NA Shell for pretty cheap. He also has an NA engine that out of the car. Here are my questions

1, How much do the NA engines put out? And what is the potential for a NA engine.

2, How much hp and TQ do the NA , TII ,and the REW put out.

3, It is suggested that the rear is swapped out if I do a transplant. Are TII rearends assessiable? how much do they run?

4, How much power can the NA read ends take?

Once again thanks in advance.

the most hp you can get reliably is around 200 give or take and that is with extensive porting, and fuel management, the TII rear is not only stronger than an na rear, it also has a limited slip unit in it, and it requires a TII drive shaft, and TII halfshafts, The drive shaft from a TII will not fit in an na tranny. Also ive seen rears on ebay for about 500 bucks. i was in your situation once, i was really getting ready to transplant a Jspec TII motor into my 89 GTU. After reviewing what parts i would need for it to be a true TII it was way too expensive and extensive, i also got really lucky on a TII on ebay which was EXACTLY what i have been looking for. This has definatly been done before, but unless you cant find a good deal on a TII car i wouldent recommend it.

OHH yea and i think anything over 200 on the NA rear is pushing it, i may be wrong, i know the TII drivetrain can hold over 500hp with no problem

Anyone have a definitive answer on this I've been getting conflicting answers fom 200 to 300. I was just thinking about swapping in a REW into the shell. I'm not rich or anything, but I don't see the point in doing all that work just to get a stock TII.

I know there are mounts for the converison avail. and I'm sure if I use the stock ecu REW I shouldn't have to worry too much about wiring and figuring out the plumbing and stuff is just half the fun of the swap.

When you say that the NA rear can't handle it, what part are you guys talking about? the pumpkin? or the half shalfs? I'll be perfectly content with like 250-300 HP.

Lastly has anyone actually done this?

i swapped all the drivetrain components out of a TII into my 91 n/a, except i built the 4 port engine as a streetported n/a with around 225whp, 300whp with nos, except i didnt get it tuned right, and now i need a new engine. although it had more power before nos than a stock TII, i wish i had just swapped a 13brew with the stock twins. it would have been a lot more reliable.

none of the n/a drivetrain parts are as strong as the TII parts, you should definitely swap in a TII drivetrain no matter what.

get the TII motor with some porting a nice turbo and the TII drivetrain, since it was built to reliably handle the power.

go look at the vaccum diagram for a FD motor. Do you really want to deal with that ****?

I know 2 people personally who have done the drivetrain swap.

It depends on how you treat the rear end. If you look on one of the V8 swap shop web pages there is a testamonial from a guy who has taken the NA rearend into the 10s with a Ford 302. If you dont shock the rear end it will take a lot of abuse. So if you have to launch it then preload the rearend. Make sure everything is mated up before giving it full power.
