New Starter Solenoid, Engine Is Flooded

okay, so i replaced the solenoid and it starts now, very strong, but now i think my engine is flooded. i tried the ol' kill the pump and crank for 15 sec, but that's not gettting it done.
the only thing is, i also replaced my battery cables and shorted out a frayed wire once. the question is, how do i tell if my engine is flooded, or if it's something else.
when i crank it, my rpm's not go up (the gauge just sits at 0) and i am also registering no vaccuum. is this normal?
i'm going to pull the plugs and do a more indepth unflooding this evening. we'll see if that works.

yeah, apex what did you mean about the trailing plug issue? i just tried again. here's what happens:
i turn the key, the starter starts spinning and the motor does too.
the tach reads 250 for like .5 sec, then drops to zero and stays at zero the whole time i crank it.
i dont want to spend an hour unflooding this thing with ATF only for it not to start b/c the plugs aren't getting spark. do i need new coils?
also, what size of a socket do i need for the plugs. my husky "mechanic" set has a 5/8 plug socket, but it is neither big enough nor long enough.

take a spark plug and wire off, put the spark plug in the wire
and put the wire with the spark plug close to metal, then have someone
crank the car and look for spark on the plug.
13/16" is the size. A dab of non-seize on the plug threads is a must as well.

okay, so the socket i bought has rounded edges, and since the plugs have such a shallow hex head, the socket slips off. combine that with the fact that i cant use my $60 Husky torque wrench, since i just opened up the case and realize the toque setter is broken. ******* PLASTIC! on a mechanic's tool, didn't even last a month! I'M soooo angry! and the powersteering pump has been in the way the whole time! in the way when i changed my battery cables, in the way of my spark plugs, in the way of wrapping my wires. and to top it off, my car is still not running, and probably wont be for another week! ARRGGGGGG. me turning into hulk!
